Love Worth Fighting For, Part 7
(The next morning, Jake and Vicky
are lying in bed together. Vicky is sound asleep in Jake's arms, which are wrapped tightly
around her. Jake wakes up and smiles when he brushes Vicky's hair out of his eyes. He
kisses her head, and begins to move out of bed, trying not to wake her. Vicky begins to
stir.)
Vicky: (sitting up) Jake, don't go.
Jake: I'm sorry, I hope I didn't wake you.
Vicky: No. (kissing Jake) There is nothing better than waking up in your arms.
Jake: (returning Vicky's kiss) I couldn't agree more. I never believed last night would
become a reality.
Vicky: Well I finally came to my senses.
Jake: I love you.
Vicky: (smiling and kissing Jake) I love you too.
Jake: So what do you say, we get dressed and I'll treat you to lunch at Carlinos.
Vicky: Very tempting. But there is something I want to tell you first.
Jake: Sounds serious.
Vicky: It is.
Jake: (takes Vicky's hand) You can tell me. Anything.
Vicky: (nodding her head) I know. I just want to tell you how I sorry I am.
Jake: Vick, please.
Vicky: No, just let me say this. I'm sorry that I was so selfish. When I came back, I was
looking for excuses to push you away because I didn't want to tell you what happened to
our twins. When I saw you and Julia, it just gave me a perfect reason to not have to see
you. And that was wrong.
Jake: Vick -
Vicky: I shouldn't have pushed you away, because that only ended up hurting both of us. I
just blamed myself for everything that happened, and I couldn't stand to let you down,
Jake.
Jake: Honey, you never let me down. I have never blamed you, not once. If this is anyone's
fault, its mine.
Vicky: I think that we have to stop blaming ourselves and just try to start healing. Its
going to take some time, but I think that we can do this. Together.
Jake: (hugging Vicky) Yes, we can. We're going to be happy again. I promise.
(In the early afternoon, Jake and Vicky walk into Carlinos. Paulina, smiling from ear to
ear, approaches them.)
Paulina: Hi, you two.
Vicky: Hi, Paulina.
Paulina: There is definitely something different about you guys.
Vicky: (putting her arms around Jake's waist) We're back together.
Paulina: (hugging Jake and Vicky, her eyes getting misty) Oh, I am so happy for you guys.
You two belong together. (wiping her eyes) My hormones are going crazy!
Vicky: (laughing) Please! Being pregnant gives you even more reason to cry!
Jake: (to Paulina) Speaking of which, I think congratulations are in order. Where's Joe?
Paulina: Thanks! Actually, he should be here any minute to have lunch. I am really glad
you guys are back together because Joe and I wanted to talk to you about something.
(Jake and Vicky look at each other curiously)
Vicky: What'd you want to ask us?
Paulina: You are so impatient! We just wait until Joe gets here.
Vicky: Well, I have to run to the little girls' room, so whatever it is, wait until I get
back. (Vicky leaves)
Paulina: (hugs Jake again) Oh, I am so happy for you. Vicky seems to be doing so much
better since the last time I saw her.
Jake: I think she is. We finally talked about what happened, and she has been through a
lot. Losing the twins has been really hard for her. For both of us.
Paulina: I'm so sorry. Do you think its too hard for her when I talk about my pregnancy?
If it is, maybe I shouldn't mention it around her for awhile.
Jake: No, I think Vicky is really happy for you and Joe. Its just going to take some time
for us to wrap our minds around what has happened.
Paulina: If you ever need to talk, Jake, you know I'm here for you.
Jake: (hugs Paulina) Thanks.
(Vicky returns a few moments later, as Joe enters the resturaunt.)
Joe: Hey you two. Vick, its so good to see you. (he hugs her) We all really missed you.
Vicky: Thanks, Joe. Its really good to be back (smiling at Jake) where I belong.
Paulina: (to Joe) Jake and Vicky are back together again.
Joe: That's great! I knew it was only a matter of time. (to Paulina) So have you talked to
them about our little proposal yet?
Jake: No, but I wish one of you would. I am starving.
Joe: Okay, McKinnon. Paulina and I would like to know if you and Vicky would consider
being our child's godparents.
Vicky: Oh, that is so sweet.
Jake: (taking Vicky's hand) We'd be really honored.
Paulina: (hugging Vicky) Thank you so much. It means so much to us.
Vicky: You're welcome. I'm surprised you asked me.
Paulina: You and Jake are my best friends. (starting to cry) Ok, you two go grab a table
before I flood this place.
(After a few more hugs, Jake and Vicky sit down at a table.)
Jake: Vick, are you comfortable with this?
Vicky: Of course. Why wouldn't I be?
Jake: I don't know. I just didn't want this baby talk to be too much for you to deal with
right now.
Vicky: I'm okay.
Jake: Good. (pauses) I'm sorry, I don't mean to be so overbearing.
Vicky: It's okay. Just don't keep it up if you don't want a fat lip.
Jake: I promise, I'll stop.
(Jake and Vicky have just gotten back to the cottage.)
Jake: You were quiet the whole way home.
Vicky: I was just thinking about a few things.
Jake: Anything you'd like to share?
Vicky: I was thinking that I want to find out what exactly happened to me. Where I was
being held and just everything that took place. I want to know every detail about where I
spent the last six months of my life.
Jake: (sitting down on the sofa, Vicky sits next to him) Oh Vick, I was hoping you would
mention this. I've been thinking maybe we should hire Gary to help us.
Vicky: That's a good idea. First thing tomorrow, we'll go see Gary. Maybe we can finally
get some closure if we can find out who Alec hired to do this to our family.
Jake: I want to find the scum that did this to you and make them pay. (He wraps his arms
around Vicky and kisses her gently on the lips) I'm not going to let anyone get away with
this.
