Love Worth Fighting For, Part 6
(Vicky is still crying and Jake
continues to console her.)
Jake: (kissing her head) Honey, everything is going to be okay.
Vicky: (pulling away from Jake and rubbing her eyes) Im sorry. I dont know
what came over me.
Jake: You were having a nightmare. Was it about what happened? (taking her hand) You can
tell me.
Vicky: No, Im fine.
Jake: Vick, I know you. Youre not fine.
Vicky: (stands up) I said it was nothing. Ill be upstairs. (she exits the room,
leaving a confused Jake sitting on the sofa.)
(That night, Jake is attempting to go to sleep in the room Donna had been staying in. He
begins to have flashbacks of Vicky having her nightmare on the couch earlier that day. He
starts to cry, when he can only imagine what Vicky must have gone through. Vicky walks
downstairs and into the kitchen. She pours herself a glass of water. When she reaches the
staircase, she stops to listen. She can hear Jake crying. She slowly walks up the stairs
and back into her room.)
(The next morning, Vicky is in the kitchen making breakfast. The boys run downstairs,
dressed for school.)
Steven: Wow, mom, you made all this for us?
Kirk: (taking a drink of orange juice) It looks good.
Vicky: Yes, believe it or not I can make eggs and toast for my two favorite guys.
Steven: Where's Jake?
Vicky: Oh, I think he is still sleeping.
Jake: (walking out of his room) No, I'm right here. I knew I smelled that coffee.
(The four sit at the table and begin eating breakfast together.)
Jake: (to Vicky) I forgot to ask you how your visit with Paulina went yesterday.
Vicky: Oh, it was nice. She and Joe are having another baby.
Jake: (taking a sip of his coffee) No kidding. That's ironic, because I talked to Chris
yesterday and he and Toni are having a baby too.
Vicky: (forcing a smile) Thats great. (Jake and Vicky just stare at each other,
neither one looking like they know what to say next.)
Kirk: Mom?
Vicky: Yes, sweetheart?
Kirk: I thought you were going to have two babies. I was going to be a big brother. Before
you went away - (Vicky looks a little uncomfortable)
Steven: Kirk, shut up.
Vicky: No, honey, its okay. (To Kirk) We'll talk about this one day very soon. But right
now you and Steven need to get to school.
Steven: (grabbing Kirk's arm) Yeah, come on, Kirk. (The boys leave the table and head
outside to wait for the bus)
Jake: I'm sorry.
Vicky: What for?
Jake: It was starting to feel like old times before I brought up Paulina.
Vicky: Well you had no way of knowing about the baby thing.
Jake: I just don't like hurting you. (getting a little upset) I'm sorry, I have to go.
(Vicky watches as Jake leaves the cottage. She walks over to the phone and picks up.)
Vicky: Mom, hi. I was wondering if you can pick the boys up from school today? (pause)
Yes, there is something important I need to take care of. (pause) Thanks. (she hangs up,
grabs her jacket and purse and runs out the door.)
(Later on in the afternoon. Jake walks into the sandbox at the park in Lassiter. He sits
down on what used to be his swing when he was a child. He looks over at the empty swing
next to him.)
Jake: (to himself) Well this is where it all started. (looking up) Bridget, can you help
me out? I just dont know where to go from here. I love Vicky more than anything or
anyone in my entire life. I am just so scared things will never be the same again. I want
her to be happy. And if that means I have to let her go, then Im willing to do that.
(starting to cry) I just want her to be happy. (Vicky walks up behind Jake and puts her
hand on his shoulder. Jake turns and looks at her. She puts her hand on his cheek.)
Vicky: Jake, I cant stand to see you hurting like this for one more second.
Jake: How did you know I was here?
Vicky: Where else would you be? Youre always exactly where I need you to be. I have
been so stupid, Jake.
Jake: What are you talking about? You have been through hell and back, and as far as Im
concerned Im lucky that youre even talking to me. Everything that happened was
my fault.
Vicky: Please dont blame yourself. It was wrong of me to push you away. (her eyes
starting to tear up) Especially when I need you more than I ever have. Oh God, Jake I love
you so much. (she wraps her arms around Jakes neck)
Jake: (who is shocked by this sudden turn of events, wraps his arms tightly around Vicky)
Vick, I love you too. More than youll ever know. (They are both crying from tears of
joy and sadness, as they look deep into each others eyes before kissing.)
Vicky: I am so sorry.
Jake: (kissing Vicky again) Stop saying that. You have nothing to be sorry for. (he hugs
Vicky tightly again) Lets go home, okay?
Vicky: (smiling through her tears) Okay.
(Jake and Vicky walk into the cottage, its nighttime.)
Jake: Shouldnt we go pick up the boys?
Vicky: No, Donna is going to keep them overnight for me. (takes both of Jakes hands
in hers) For us.
Jake: (puts his hand on Vickys face, brushing some hair out of her eyes) I love you
so much.
Vicky: I love you too. And I missed you. So much, Jake.
Jake: I still cant even believe youre really here.
Vicky: (kisses him softly) Now do you believe it?
Jake: I guess that helps a little.
Vicky: (laughs) How about this? (she kisses him again)
Jake: Better. (They begin to kiss more passionately)
Vicky: Make love to me.
Jake: (a little apprehensive) Are you sure?
Vicky: Yes. I love you so much, I want to be with you again. Tonight.
(Jake kisses Vicky again before picking her up and carrying her upstairs.)
(Jake and Vicky are lying in bed together basking in the afterglow.)
Jake: You are so beautiful, Vicky. I want you to know that I never stopped loving you.
Vicky: I love you too. And were never going to be apart ever again. I couldnt
stand being away from you. Or the boys.
Jake: (looking into Vickys eyes) This might not be the best time to bring this up -
Vicky: (puts her fingers on Jakes lips) Shhh. You want to know where Ive been
all this time. I know.
Jake: If you dont want to talk about it, Ill understand.
Vicky: No, I want to tell you everything. Its just very hard for me to talk about.
Jake: Well take it one step at a time. Whatever youre comfortable with.
Vicky: I am so lucky to have you.
Jake: Im the lucky one.
Vicky: I was on Lucindas plane, and after we took off, the pilot told me to make
sure I stayed buckled in because he was having some kind of engine problems. I was getting
scared because the bodyguard said something had come up and he would have to meet me at
the Oakdale airport. I didnt think things were right with him from the beginning. I
think he ha something to do with the plane going down. I was so stupid, I was suspicious
of him and didnt do a damn thing about it.
Jake: Honey, you were not stupid. Im the idiot who made you get the bodyguard in the
first place. I should have gone to New York with you and made sure you were safe. You had
no way of knowing that jerk was working for Wallace.
Vicky: He was? I knew he was up to something. I wonder what happened to him.
Jake: Hes dead.
Vicky: What?
Jake: Yeah, after I thought you were gone, I tracked him down. Its a long story but he
fell off a roof and bit the dust.
Vicky: (laughs) Guess he got what was coming.
Jake: He sure did.
Vicky: So the last thing I remember is the pilot telling me to hold on because the plane
was going down.
Jake: Oh, honey, you must have been so scared.
Vicky: I couldnt believe it was happening. But I dont remember the actual
crash. Because when I woke up, I thought I was in the hospital.
Jake: Where were you?
Vicky: I dont know. It looked like a hospital room to me. I was just so happy to be
alive, and I thought that I would be able to call you to come and get me.
Jake: What happened?
Vicky: I was being drugged the whole time. My hands and feet were tied down. I couldnt
move. I couldnt even talk.
Jake: Damn Alec Wallace. After the plane went down, were you still -
Vicky: (taking Jakes hand) The babies were fine. I was still pregnant when I woke up
in that place.
Jake: Vick, what happened? If anyone laid a hand on you, I swear, Ill find them and
kill them myself.
Vicky: No, sweetheart. No one even really spoke to me at first. I felt like I was in a
dream the whole time. But then I went into labor. (getting upset) Oh, Jake, I was so
scared.
Jake: (holding Vicky close to him) Baby, I am so sorry this happened to you.
Vicky: (crying) I tried to stop it. I was so afraid of what was going to happen once I had
them. I knew it wasnt time for me to have them.
Jake: So they were premature.
Vicky: I think so. I really had no concept of what day it was. But I know they were small.
Jake: You saw them.
Vicky: No. I never held them. I never heard them cry. Im so sorry.
Jake: (crying with Vicky now) Listen to me. This isnt your fault.
Vicky: I should have been able to do something. I remember that I kept saying that I
wanted to see them, but they just ignored me. They kept saying the twins never had a
chance.
Jake: Honey, you didnt do anything wrong. Those people, they must have been working
for Wallace. It was all part of some sick plot.
Vicky: I was just so scared.
Jake: Sweetheart, youre safe now. Im not going to let anyone hurt you ever
again.
Vicky: (continuing to cry) I tried to save them, Jake.
Jake: Shhhh. I know you did. I know. Its going to be okay.
(Jake continues to hold Vicky until she falls asleep. He finally falls asleep not long
after her. An hour or so later, Vicky wakes up crying again after having her usual
nightmare.)
Vicky: (crying) I tried to save them. I didnt want them to die.
Jake: (consoling Vicky) I know. I promise you, everything will be all right now.
