A Miracle, Part 2
BACK AT JAKE'S OFFICE, Jake and
Lucinda are still looking puzzled
LUCINDA: Well, I wonder what it is
JAKE: I don't know but there's only one way to find out (He bends down and picks up the
basket and takes it and sets it on his desk, Lucinda follows) Well. here goes. (He removes
the blanket and they look in the basket, There are two babies in it, Jake looks shocked)
LUCINDA: (Takes a deep breath) Oh my god! BABIES? Where'd they come from?
JAKE: Your guess is good as mine (He goes over to the door and looks out in the hallway to
see if anybody's around, The hallway is empty) It looks like someone just dropped them off
and took off.
LUCINDA: (sees a note in the basket with the babies, She picks the note up) Look there's a
note here.
JAKE: Goes back over there and grabs the note from her) Let me see that (He rads the note)
"McKinnon, these are your babies."
LUCINDA: WHAT? Who's it from? Let me see that. (She reads it) It's not signed, What's it
supposed to mean?
JAKE: I don't know (He picks up the phone) They can't be mine (He starts to dial and John
walks in)
LUCINDA: (Walks over to John) John, I'm glad you're here
JOHN: What's up?
LUCINDA: Someone just abandoned two babies here.
JOHN: Someone just left their babies here? Where are they?
LUCINDA: Over here (They go over to the desk)
JAKE: (Hangs up the phone) Margo's on her way. Hey, John.
JOHN: Jake (He looks in the basket) Are these the babies?
LUCINDA: Yeah!
JOHN: And someone just left them?
JAKE: Yeah, We don't know who and there was a note that said they are mine
JOHN: That's Interesting. Do you mind if I take a look at them?
JAKE: No, go ahead, Lucinda, can we talk?
LUCINDA: Okay (To John) We'll be right back (They step outside the office) What do you
want to talk about?
JAKE: Lucinda, now you know those babies can't be mine, My wife was pregnant when her
plane went down and you know that.
LUCINDA: I know that, Where'd they come from?
JAKE: I DON"T KNOW, thats what I'm trying to figure out! (Margo walks up) Hey, Margo.
MARGO: Jake, Lucinda, whats up?
JAKE: Well, Margo, follow me (They all go back inside the office to where the babies are,
Jake shows Margo the babies) This is what's up.
MARGO: (Looking at the babies) Where did they come from?
JAKE: Thats what we are trying to find out. Someone left them and took off.
LUCINDA: (To John) John, how are they?
JOHN: They are two healthy little Girls and they are only a couple of days old.
MARGO: That's strange that someone would just leave them.
JAKE: What do you mean? You're a cop, people abandon babies everyday.
MARGO: I know that, Jake, But why here?
JAKE: Oh, I haven't told you the best part yet. (He picks up the note and shows it to
Margo) This note was in the basket with the babies
MARGO: (Takes the note and reads it) Jake, this says they are yours.
JAKE: I know! Someone just leaves them and I'm supposed to believe they are mine
because of a note. Now, everybody knows my wife was pregnant when her plane went
down
MARGO: Do you think she could have survived?
JAKE: I doubt that. We had the FBI all over this and they couldn't find
anything
JOHN: (To Jake) Jake, you know I could do a DNA test right now on you and the babies to
make sure.
JAKE: I'm telling you they can't be mine, but go ahead and do the test
JOHN: Okay, come over here and I'll draw your blood. (They go to the other side of the
room)
LUCINDA: (To Margo) So, Margo, what do we do with them?
MARGO: I'm not sure (They go over to where Jake is. John is done with Jake and he goes
over to the babies) Let's step out of the office so we can talk. (They leave the office)
So, Jake, the note says they are yours, What do you want me to do with them?
JAKE: I don't know, They ain't mine.
MARGO: Jake, I know you said they aren't yours, but we have to take them somewhere.
LUCINDA: Okay, I take them home with me 'til we figure this out.
JAKE: You take them home? Who will take care of them?
LUCINDA: I'll hire a Nanny.
MARGO: Okay, that sounds good to me.
LUCINDA: Well, then I better go make some calls and find a Nanny (She goes inside the
office)
JOHN: (Walk out) All done.
JAKE: So when will we know?
JOHN: In about 2 weeks, I'll call you. (He leaves)
MARGO: So, Jake, if for some chance they are yours, what are you going to do?
JAKE: I said they aren't mine, and if for some chance they are that would mean Vicky's
alive somewhere.
MARGO: But where? Do you think she could have left them here?
JAKE: NO! No, she would never ever leave her babies and walk away and if she was alive she
would be here with me.
MARGO: Okay, well, I have to get back to the station. I'll make some calls and see what I
can come up with. I'll let you know if I hear something. You let me know if you hear
anything.
JAKE: I will. Thanks for coming. (Margo leaves, Jake looks inside his office and then
looks up) Vicky, whats going on here? Are these our babies? Could you really be
alive? (He looks back in his office at the basket then looks up again) Honey, I swear I
will find out who these babies belong to and if they are ours I will not rest until I find
you and put this family back together, I promise you that!
