A Miracle, Part 1
3 Mos after Vicky's death - It's
Valentine's day and Jake is sitting in his office lokking at the picture of him and Vicky
with tears in his eye's, He looks up and says "Hi Honey, It's Valentine's day"
He pauses and thinks "Remember the very first Valentine card I gave you?" He
smiles a little "Yeah Honey I know it seems like it was just yesturday" Tears
start to run down his face "I miss you so much, I love you and remember no matter
what happens I will always love you" He sets the picture down and Lucinda walks in,
Jake wipes his face so Lucinda can't tell he been crying.
LUCINDA: Hey Jake, have you got a new lead on . . . (She stops and looks at him) What's
wrong?
JAKE: (Avoiding the 'Whats wrong?" question) A lead on what?
LUCINDA: The Dixon and Maynard custody battle
JAKE: No, nothing new (He stands up) Is that all you wanted?
LUCINDA: (Standing in front of his desk) Yeah! But you never answered my question
JAKE: (Still avoiding the, "What's wrong?" question) I told you there was
nothing new (He sits down to his computer) Now, if you don't mind I have a lot of work to
do.
LUCINDA: Not that question
JAKE: Then what question?
LUCINDA: Whats wrong?
JAKE: (Still avoiding the question) Look, Lucinda, I have a lot of work to do, I don't
have time for 20 questions.
LUCINDA: (Leaning over the desk a little) That can wait a minute, What is wrong?
JAKE: (Sits back and crosses his arms) What makes you think something's wrong?
LUCINDA: Because it looks like you've been crying
JAKE: (Stands up and turns toward the window) Don't be silly. Nothing's wrong.
LUCINDA: I see this must be about Vicky
JAKE: Lucinda, please leave it alone (He's looking out the window)
LUCINDA: Okay, I see you don't want to talk about it, I'll be in my office (She waits for
a response from him but he just looks out the window) If you decide you want to talk about
it you know where to find me (She turns around and starts to walk towards the door)
JAKE: When does it stop?
LUCINDA: (Stops and turns around) I beg your pardon?
JAKE: When does it stop?
LUCINDA: When does what stop?
JAKE: When does It (He pauses) Stop hurting?
LUCINDA: I see this is about Vicky
JAKE: Yeah, you can say that. I miss her so much, It's been 3 months and the pain
doesn't seem to be getting any better.
LUCINDA: (Walks over to where Jake is) You know, Jake, the pain never really goes away but
as time goes by it will lessen and you have all those wonderful memories to hold on to
that helps
JAKE: I think of her every day and I dream of her every night. Last night, I had a
dream I didn't want to end
LUCINDA: A good dream, I take it
JAKE: Oh, the best!
LUCINDA: What would that be about?
JAKE: I dreamed that (He stops) You don't want to know, You might think it's silly
LUCINDA: Try me
JAKE: Okay, I dreamed I was lying in bed and Vicky crawled in bed with me and (He smiles)
And we made love all night long like we did before . . .
LUCINDA: Thats not silly. And I bet you loved every minute of it
JAKE: Well, I can't say I didn't. It was the best dream I had in a long time
LUCINDA: And you hold on to those dreams (There's a knock on the side door to his office)
Are you expecting someone?
JAKE: No. (He walks over to the door and opens it but no one's there) Nobody's here
LUCINDA: (She walks over to the door) Thats strange, someone just knocked on this door
JAKE: Well, it's probably just a prank of some sort (He starts to close the door)
LUCINDA: (Looks down) Jake! (She stops him from closing the door)
JAKE: Okay, what's up now?
LUCINDA: (there is a basket on the floor with a blanket over it, She points to it) Look
down there
JAKE: (Looks down) Where did that come from? (They both look at each other with a puzzle
look on their face.)
