Everyone is getting ready for bed...except Jake

Scene 22

Donna: (yelling upstairs) Boys, did you brush your teeth?

Steven and Kirk: (yelling back down)Yes Nana

Marley: Well I think I am about to hit the sack...(takes Tyrone's hand) You comin' honey?

Tyrone: Where you lead I will follow...

Marley: Nite Mom, nite Jake

Donna: Nite darling, nite Tyrone

Tyrone: Good night Donna...see ya Jake

Jake: (who has been sitting at the dinner table not talking to anyone since the sleeping arrangements were made) Sleep good you two....are you sure you don't want the other room?

Marley: Yes Jake...we will see you in the morning (the boys come running downstairs) nite boys

Steven and Kirk: Nite Aunt Marley, nite Tyrone

Tyrone: Good night guys (they walk upstairs)

Jake: (stalling) Well looks like it's just the four of us...what should we do?

Donna: Count me out...(yawning and smiling at the boys) I'm beat

Steven: (giving a slight grin to Kirk) Us too

Jake: Oooh come on...let's have some fun

Donna: Go to sleep Jake

Jake: But Donna I.... (Donna interrupts him)

Donna: Jake...go to sleep, come on boys

Steven: Love you Jake (goes to give him a hug)

Jake: (grabs on to both of them) I love you guys too, sleep good

Kirk: Nite (the three of them walk upstairs)

Jake: Come on Mckinnon who are you tryin' to fool...you are going to have to sleep eventually...you know you're tired...the sooner you fall asleep the sooner you wake up....I can do this...no big deal, I'm just gonna go upstairs into my old room and go to sleep...(walks upstairs) okay here I am there is the bed now all I have to do is get in it and fall asleep...(continues to stare at the bed) why am I making such a big deal out of this...I try to be an example to the boys, telling them never to be afraid and here I am afraid to sleep in my own bed...that's it I'm just gonna do this (he practically takes a leap onto the bed)...that wasn't so bad...now what... I just sit here until I fall asleep... that should be fun...I'm sure Vic is getting a kick out of watching this...here I am flooded of memories of what used to be, but will never be again (takes her pillow) ahhh I've missed this smell....I could smell your hair all day...I miss waking up next to you in this bed...I miss making love to you anytime of the day....I even miss going to sleep angry...atleast I still had you beside me...(remembering what he told Vicky the day Ryan died) I guess the sooner I fall asleep the sooner I will see you....you have always been waiting for me in my dreams (he closes his eyes)



Scene 23 Jake's asleep and dreaming of Vicky

Vicky: (whining) Jake...Jake...Jake you promised you'd push me on the swing if I pushed you first

Jake: (laughing) Guess I tricked you

Vicky: I swear Jake Mckinnon you never keep your word...you always make promises and you never keep them...I guess that means that what you carved in the tree is a lie too (starts to run off)

Jake: (grabs her arm) Ooh come Vic, I was just playin' with you...here jump on the swing and I will push you as high as the sky

Vicky: I knew it...I knew you wouldn't let me down...Jake, did you mean what you carved in the tree...you promise it will always be Vicky and Jake forever

Jake: Vicky I don't where my life is going from one minute to the next, but when I am with you...life makes sense...so I guess I have to keep you in my life so I don't go crazy

Vicky: But what about when we grow up...what if things change

Jake: We won't let things change...we are all we've got...forever and ever and ever

(Jake begins to smile and has another dream)

Vicky: (smiles) Hey Mckinnon...How would you feel if you ever lost me?

Jake: I would feel like I had lost myself....why do you talk like that...I mean you always talk about me losing you, like you know that it's going to happen someday

Vicky: What would you do though...I mean a girl needs to know these things...you are the only person I can count on...you are my best friend...so what would you do if you ever lost me

Jake: I wouldn't give up until I found you again...is that the answer you are looking for?

Vicky: Is that the truth?

Jake: Well of course it is Vic....I mean losing you...well I can't imagine

Vicky: Well that's good...I mean it's good that no matter how many years go by we will always be best friends and I can always count on you to find me when I am lost

Jake: (smiles) Always

(Jake mumbles "always" to himself and has another dream)

Jake: (looking around curiously) Where am I?

Bridget: Hello Jake

Jake: Bridget?...what kind of dream is this...is this Heaven?

Bridget: Sure...if that's what you want it to be dear boy...it's your dream

Jake: I don't understand...why am I having this dream

Bridget: Maybe because you've shut down every aspect of your body except for your imagination...I don't know why you are having this dream...the big guy doesn't give me that kind of info...all I know is I have a very short time to make you realize you are losing yourself...don't be a loser Jake...be a winner

Jake: How can I win without Vicky? She was my luck

Bridget: I wish I could tell you Jake but you are going to have to search deep down inside your heart to find the answers...they are all hidden deep down...but you have the truth Jake...you have the answers

Jake: The answers to what Bridget?

Bridget: The answers to forever...remember your promises Jake....just remember

(Jake wakes up in a sweat)

Jake: Remember what Bridget? What am I supposed to remember? (lays back down and closes his eyes)
