What's Meant to Be, Part 7
Scene 18
Jake and the boys are spending the night in the house
Jake: (lighting the fire) Okay boys, the fire is ready
Steven: Hey Jake, will you tell us a story?
Jake: I think you guys have heard all of my stories
Kirk: Why don't you tell us about Oakdale
Jake: (with an adorable expression) Nottin' much to tell
Steven: Ohhh come on Jake, there has to be something pretty cool about the place or you
wouldn't stay, you'd go back home to Bay City
Jake: Well my job is pretty good and the people are pretty nice...ummmm that's really
about it
Kirk: Who's your bestest friend?
Jake: My bestest friend?
Kirk: Yeah, Mom used to say that you were her bestest friend, so who's yours?
Jake: Well Kirk, your mom was my bestest friend too...(trying to get off the subject) and
she always will be, sooo...you guys warm enough?
Steven: Yeah Jake we're fine....you know what we need....marshmallows!!
Jake: (with a huge smile) Do I know my boys or do I know my boys (throwing a marshmallow
at them)
Steven: Jake you are the best
Jake: You better believe it...come on what's a spend the night party without
marshmallows...did you really think I would forget something so important?!?!
Kirk: Nope, I knew you would remember!!
Jake: (looking at Steven with a smirk) Thanks Kirk
Steven: Hey, I thought you would remember...I just...well you and mom...well it was kinda
"your thing" to eat lots and lots of marshmallows...I guess I just figured you
might not be in the mood
Jake: (moving in closer with the boys) Do you know how much having the two of you here, in
this house, means to me? I never would have been able to do this without you guys....it
makes the pain a lot easier to bare...and besides marshmallows happen to be one of my
favorite foods and it makes it a little more like old times
Steven: Yeah, it does feel a little more like old times...just the guys (leans in and
gives Jake a hug)
Jake: (pulling in Kirk and looking up at the sky) Yeah, just the guys
.....The next morning in London
Jaime: Yes, this is Jaime Frame, I called yesterday about the matter with my son Steven
Frame...yes I understand that this is a highly irregular case, but it really needs to be
taken care of as soon as possible...actually Wednesday is the absolute latest
Scene 19 Jake and the boys are arriving in Bay City
Jake: (waking up the boys who are exausted from staying up all night) Home sweet
home...come on guys we're here
Steven: (slowly waking up) We're here (rubbing his eyes) Kirk, wakeup....we're finally
back in Bay City!!
Kirk: (barely opening his eyes) We're home??
Steven: (smiling) Yeah Kirk we're home
Jake: Well has the place changed much since the last time you saw it?
Steven: No not really, that's the best part, same place same people...that's what I love
the most about it...not too many surprises
Kirk: (sitting up) Just lots of family and friends
Jake: I guess Dorothy had it right after all...there's no place like home
Steven: (pointing) Hey I can see the cottage!!
Kirk: Me too!! Drive faster Jake...faster
Jake: Okay, okay, just settle down...now remember I didn't tell Nana if or when we were
coming so we can surprise her!! (pulling up into the driveway)
Steven: (Jumping out of the car) This is the happiest day of my life
Jake: Oh come on now, what about the day you got your new bike...is this better than that?
Steven: (acting very anxious) Well almost...come on Jake...can we please go in now?!?!
Kirk: (following Steven's lead and tugging on Jake's arm) Yeah Jake...PLEASSSSE?!?!
Jake: (smiling because the boys are so happy) Ohhhh alright...you two run up and ring the
door bell....and don't forget to yell SURPRISE really loud!!
Steven: Got it, come on Kirk!! (they run up and ring the doorbell, Donna opens the door)
Steven and Kirk: SURPRISE!!!!
Donna: (almost having a heart attack) Ohhh my lord, you boys almost scared me to death!!
Come here (grabs the both of them as she begins to cry) Ohhhh boys your Nana has missed
you so much!!
Steven: We've missed you too Nana!!
Jake: (walking up to the doorway) Hi Nana!! 'Long time, no see'
Donna: Very funny (hugging him) why didn't you tell me you were coming?
Jake: I figured the boys made that pretty loud and clear when they yelled (begins to
scream) SUR....
Donna: (immediately covering his mouth) Thank you Jake, I don't need a reenactment, well
why don't the three of you come in
Steven: (running inside the house) It still looks...why it even smells the same
Jake: Some things never change
Kirk: Is my room still here?
Steven: Well of course dummy...why wouldn't it be
Jake: Hey don't call your brother a dummy...why don't you two run upstairs and make sure
Nana hasn't moved anything!!
Donna: You both have my word I haven't touched a single thing!!
Steven: Come on Kirk (they both run upstairs)
Donna: Thank you Jake
Jake: For what?
Donna: For bringing them home...for bringing them to me...I have missed them so
much...they are a part of me, a very large part of me
Jake: I know that Donna that's why this was our first stop...you are their Nana and it has
been way too long since they have seen you
Steven: (upstairs in his/Kirk's room) Look Kirk here's the model of the cottage that you
and Jake made
Kirk: Cool...yeah I remember, that was on my birthday...Hey Steven here's your lucky
baseball glove, how could you forget this?
Steven: Well when we had to leave I wanted something that meant a lot to me to stay here
so it would feel like a part of me was still in Bay City...you left your favorite book
Kirk: (looking a little upset) Yeah, Mommy used to read that to me and I didn't want
anyone else to so I left it here
Steven: (changing the subject) Hey you thirsty?
Kirk: Sure
Steven: Okay I'll run downstairs and see what's in the kitchen...you okay up here alone?
Kirk: Yeah Steven, I think I'm old enough to stay by myself for a few minutes
Steven: Okay I'll be right back (Steven goes downstairs and we see Bridget in the corner
of S&K's room)
Bridget: Psssttt...Hey Kirk
Kirk: Ohhh hey Bridget...I was wondering when I would see you again
Bridget: Well my dear boy...I have to talk to you when you are alone and thats not very
often...so we'll have to move fast
Kirk: Okay what do you want me to do?
Bridget: I want you to make sure that Jake spends the night in this house tonight... as a
matter of fact if at all possible try to convince him to stay in the house for the next
four nights, until you are supposed to leave
Kirk: Okay I'll try, but why is it so important for Jake to sleep here?
Bridget: Because Kirk, it's possible that if Jake sleeps in his bed, in his room, maybe he
will start to act like Jake again
Kirk: You mean he won't be sad anymore?
Bridget: Believe me Kirk, when Jake wises up he will get the answers he needs and then he
most definitely won't be sad anymore!!
