Scene 11

Jake has gone back to Oakdale to gather his things

Jake: (at his apartment, looking at Vicky's letter) "open them together like a family should", anything for the most beautiful lady in the world!! (doorbell rings) who could that be(goes to open door)...Julia..what are you doing here?

Julia: Hi Jake, I just wanted to stop by and see you before you left, I hope thats okay

Jake: (not looking her in the eye) Umm...yeah, thats fine I'm glad you stopped by...there's something we need to talk about

Julia: First I want to show you something, I got some presents for the boys

Jake: Julia, you really shouldn't have

Julia: I wanted to

Jake: Well thankyou, I will give these to them first thing, but Julia...I really need to tell you something...I....I think....(Julia's cell phone starts ringing)

Julia: Hold that thought...Hello, yes, well I am kinda in the middle of something is it an emergency? Okay then, I guess I am on my way, bye....Sorry, that was the paper, with you being gone I am the best they have, I better get going...ohhh yeah, what was it you wanted to tell me?

Jake:(chickening out) Nothing, its not important, I'll see ya when I get back, I...I'll miss you

Julia:(smiling) I'll miss you too(giving him a kiss) hurry back okay!?!?

Jake: I will and thanks again for the gifts I'm sure the boys will love them

Julia: It was my pleasure, bye Jake

Jake: bye (Julia walks out) I tried.. I just couldn't do it...maybe things will change...maybe I will get over you....time will tell


Scene 12 Jake is getting on the plane to London

Heather: (walking up to Jake) Hi my name is Heather and I will be your flight attendent, can I get you anything?

Jake: No thanks Heather, could you tell me if we are on any kind of delay so I can call my kids before the plane takes off

Heather: No sir, no delay, the flight will be leaving shortly

Jake: Sounds great, thanks Heather (grabs a pillow)

Robin: Hi, my name is Robin, it looks like we will be flying buddies today

Jake: Hi Robin, my name is Jake, you live here?

Robin: yeah, I've lived in Oakdale all my life, what about you?

Jake: Well I was born in Lassiter, PA when I was 18 I moved to Bay City with my girlfriend who became my wife and this past summer I got a job and editor of the City Times so I moved to Oakdale

Robin: Do you have any kids?

Jake:(sadly) Yes, I have two boys, Steven and Kirkland (he shows a pic of them in NYC) that was a few years ago

Robin: Ohh they are adorable, I assume this is your wife (points to Vicky)

Jake: (knods) well she wasn't in that picture, she was just my "best friend"

Robin: Shes very beautiful, so why are you going to London?

Jake: (looking out the window) thats where my boys are

Robin: Why are they in London, if you don't mind me asking?

Jake: Well Robin, I left out one little detail about my wife, she died about three months ago, and my boys, aren't exactly my boys, see I raised them like they were but they both have different father's, they are living with Vicky's, thats my wife, first husband, who is Steven's father, I just can't take care of them right now

Robin: Ooh Jake I am so sorry, it sounds like you have had a really rough time

Jake: Yeah, it hasn't been easy but I have to make the boys think that I am okay, I am supposed to be tough, I can't let them know that I am shutting down inside, anyway what about you? Why are you going to London?

Robin: Business, I know pretty boring, my husband and I are getting a divorce and I just needed to get away

Jake: well sounds like neither one of us are having it easy right now

Robin: Yeah well, my situation is working out for the best, I mean for my kids, we just weren't happy anymore

Jake: Well, you have to put your kids needs first, Vicky and her 1rst husband had some hard times after their divorce but they decided that for Steven's sake they would be friends, he moved and hardly ever saw Steven so things worked out pretty well

Robin: What about Vicky's second husband, what was he like?

Jake:Grant, now he was a real peice of work, he and Vicky never got along, he shot his own brother who Vicky was engaged to

Robin: Ooh God, that is just awful, did he ever get to see Kirkland

Jake: More than I wanted him to, Vicky hated Grant, but she knew how much Kirk loved his dad, so she let Grant visit alot

Robin: It sounds like your wife was a very special lady Jake

Jake: Vicky was the best, she was my whole life(beginning to get upset again)

Robin: You dont have to answer this but how did she die?

Jake: Plane crash

Robin: Ooh really, I dont remember hearing about a plane crash near Oakdale

Jake: (looking out the window again) she wasnt on an airline she was on a private plane

Robin: How did it go down?

Jake: It was a set up from the beginning

Robin: How do you mean?

Jake: You heard of Alec Wallace?

Robin: Yeah, he was murdered not too long ago

Jake: Yeah well he didnt die before he paid a guy to be Vicky's bodyguard and somehow make her plane crash

Robin: Ooh Jake...but why Vicky?

Jake: I was doing a story on Wallace, I was trying to dig up some dirt that he didn't want me digging up so he threatened Vicky, I called Vicky in New York and told her to get a bodyguard,(laughs)if you knew my wife you would know that she wasn't too crazy about some guy following her around but she could tell how worried I was so she got one...she got a guy who was one Wallace's pay roll and he killed her

Robin: What was she doing in New York, why wasn't she in Oakdale with you?

Jake: She was staying with her mom because she had skin cancer

Robin: Whoah, life is never very dull in your family is it?

Jake: No I guess not

Heather: We are asking that all passengers buckle their seatbelts we will be landing at the airport shortly

Jake: Wow, this flight went by rather quickly

Robin: I guess it helps that we had someone to talk to

Jake: It was very nice meeting you Robin, who knows maybe I will see you sometime in Oakdale

Robin: Maybe, I will look foward to it

Jake: Me too

Heather: If all passengers will stay seated we will begin to unload everyone, I hope you enjoyed your flight and you will fly with us again

Jake: Well it looks like we are off, I hope you have a good trip Robin

Robin: You too Jake(shakes his hand)(as they step off the plane into the airport we see Steven and Kirk and Jaime)

Steven and Kirk: JAKE!!!!(the run up to him)

Jake: Ohh there are my boys!!(grabs both of them into a big hug)

Steven: Jake, we made you a sign

Jake: I know I see that, thanks guys

Kirk: How long are you gonna stay Jake?

Jake: As long as you need me to buddy

Steven and Kirk:(looking at eachother) FOREVER!!!

Jake:(smiling) lets take it one day at a time okay

Robin:(walking up to the 3 of them) Well Jake, I guess this is goodbye(looking at Steven and Kirk) You boys look after your dad okay

Steven and Kirk: We will, who are you

Robin:(smiling) I'm just a friend, Jake and I sat by eachother on the plane

Jake: Well guys we better go, bye Robin, thanks for listening

Robin: Anytime (looking at the 3 of them as they go to meet Jaime) That Vicky was one lucky girl to have a guy like that


Scene 13Jaime's apartment


Jaime: Here we are, you can put your stuff in the bedroom on the far right Jake

Jake: Okay thanks, and thanks for letting me come on such short notice

Jaime: Its no problem and I know the boys are glad to have you here

Jake: Yeah its been way too long (going to put his bags down)

Jaime: So how have you been holding up?

Jake: I'm okay, its really hard but I am doing my best to make it better

Jaime: Yeah, I miss her too, I know its not the same, but she gave me Steven and he means the world to me, and I will always be greatful to her for that

Jake: (looking down) that is a very special son you have

Jaime: Well, I call him my son, but he doesn't consider me to be his dad

Jake: What do you mean?

Jaime: He calls me Jaime, he says that you are his dad

Jake: (smiling in the inside) I'm sorry

Jaime: (laughing) Now I know you are lying about being sorry, in any case you shouldn't be, you are their dad Jake, you were there for them through all the hard times just like a dad should be, I was never there for any important moments in Steven's life, including his birth, both of those kids are lucky to have you Jake

Jake: Thanks Jaime that means alot coming from you, listen I need to ask you a favor

Jaime: Well what is it?

Jake: I went by the house that Vic and I bought in Oakdale and I found this (shows him the letter)

Jaime: (reads the letter) This must have been very hard for you to read, so what are asking from me?

Jake: I was wondering if I could take the boys for a few days

Jaime: Jake I don't know... I mean with school, I just don't know if now is a good time for them to leave

Jake: What if we left on Friday after school and I could have them back by Wednesday afternoon, thats only 3 days, and they could get their assignments ahead of time...come on Jaime, please, it is Vicky's dying wish that the 3 of us do this together...

Jaime: Have you said anything to the boys yet?

Jake: No, but I know that they would love to go, I was thinking that after we open the gifts we could go to Bay City for a couple of days, I know that they would love to see everyone and Donna really misses them

Jaime: You've already told everyone is Bay City haven't you?

Jake: (smiling) I might have mentioned a little something to Donna, Paulina, Nick.... and Donna might have mentioned something to Marley...but if you don't think it is a good idea well then....

Jaime: Well I guess you leave me no choice, Donna will shoot me if I dont let the boys go....Okay Jake you have until Wednesday

Jake: (giving him a kiss on the cheek) OOHHH Thank you Jaime!!

Jaime: (wiping his cheek in disgust) Your Welcome Mckinnon just don't kiss me again okay?!?! I might change my mind!!
