Love Survives, Part 3

Jake was in his car on his way to find help. He had his lap top with him. All he could think about was the message Vicky had sent him. He prayed that he would find her in time to prevent anything from happening to her or the twins. He said out loud "You’re watching out for my girls, aren’t, you Bridget? Then he heard the bells that Vicky always told him about, and he knew that everything was going to work out just fine. Bridget would be looking out for Vicky and the twins until he could get them back. Their love had survived so much already and always came out on top it would survive this too. Soon they would be a family again. Jake just hoped it would not take too long

Meanwhile Vicky was in her room on the island. She knew she had taken a big chance when she got a hold of the computer for a few hours, but she didn’t know what else to do. She really wasn’t in much of a position to try to escape because that would put the babies in jeopardy. She was being taken care of and was allowed to wander the island, accompanied by a guard but was told if she attempted any kind of an escape that Jake would pay for her actions, so Vicky played the part of a the model prisoner, but secretly she tried to contact Jake. Now the only thing she could do was follow Bridget’s advice and "Rely on Jake". She knew in her heart that he would find her, and they would be together again, she just had to be patient.

Jake finally arrived in Bay City. He knocked on the door of the house and was greeted by Paulina who grabbed him and gave him a big hug. She said, "Jake are you all right? I have been so worried about you." Everybody in Bay City misses you." Before he had a chance to answer her, two familiar faces came racing around the corner, and soon as they saw him screamed out "Jake!" and jumped into his arms. "Did you come to take us home?" asked Steven and Kirkland. Then Paulina reminded them that they were only visiting for a few weeks while Jamie was out of the country and asked them if they wanted to go get ice cream. The boys didn’t want to leave Jake, but he promised he would be there when they got back. After they left, Jake finally got a chance to ask the maid if Carl, the person he came to see, was at home. He figured that Carl had enough connections good and bad that he would be able to help him find out where Vicky was. Jake walked into Carl’s study and showed him the e-mail he had received, and he told him about everything he had discovered since the plane crash. Carl agreed with him that it sounded like a very elaborate set-up, and they would have to proceed very carefully. It was agreed that Jake would stay at the the Cory mansion. He would say he was staying there because it was too hard to stay at the cottage, and he wanted to be as close to the boys as possible. This way if he was being watched, he could work with Carl, and nobody would question why he was there all the time.

They decided to start from the beginning and find out everything they could about Alec and any property that he owned especially if he owned any islands. Then Carl said he knew someone that might be able to trace where Vicky’s e-mail came from. Carl made some phone calls and all they could do was wait. Jake spent all his spare time with the boys. He took them to the park, played football with them and put them to bed at night. They were a family again the only thing missing was Vicky, but she would be with them soon thought Jake.

On the island, all Vicky could think about was Jake. When she was alone she told the twins all about their dad and how he was going to bring them back home. She also had taped Jake’s last few conversations of fatherly advice to the twins, and had brought them with her in case the twins were overly active on the plane trip to Oakdale. Whenever they heard their dad’s voice they seemed to calm down. Now she used the tapes to calm herself down. Every time she played the tapes she could hear the love in his voice for her and the twins, and that along with the babies was the only thing that gave her hope . She just prayed Jake would find her before the babies were born. There was no way she was going to let that man holding her prisoner have anything to do with raising her and Jake’s children no matter what he said. Vicky had never felt such hate for anything or anyone in her whole life. She knew someday he would pay for all the pain he had caused. She and Jake would make sure of that. Vicky was starting to get upset again so she played the tape where Jake was singing to the girls, and she laughed as she said " Jake you’re flat"

Two days later Jake and Carl got the break they were looking for . Alec had owned an island in the Carribean that only his closest associates had known about, and coincedentally the e-mail was traced to a number from the Carribbean. They managed to get the exact location of the island. Carl had also done research on a few of the closest associates. He said he would have one of his men pose as an associate, named John Fitgerald, and send him to the island, but Jake refused he said if any one was going to that island it would be him. He was the reason Vicky was in this situation, and he was going to be the one to get her out. While Carl’s men detained the real John Fitzgerald, Jake would take his place. Reluctantly Carl agreed and told Jake that they would get a mask made up identical to John Fitzgerald’s face that Jake would have to wear at all times once he was on the island, and he could not have anything is his possession that could identify him as Jake Mckinnon. Jake spent the next few days studying everything there was to be known about John, his family, his habits, and hobbies. He knew what the stakes were, and by the time he left for the island, Jake knew John Fitzgerald’s life as if it were his own. The thing that was the most difficult for Jake was disguising his voice so that it was unrecognizable, but he managed to do that as well.

Finally he was ready to go. He told the boys that he had to leave to work on an important story, but it was a secret and nobody could know where he was going. Steven & Kirkland thought that was cool. Carl even arranged for someone to leave the country posing as Jake so nobody would suspect he knew Vicky was alive.

Jake arrived on the island, and he saw a big house up on the hill. He walked up, rang the doorbell, and introduced himself as John Fitzgerald and said that Alec had told him about this place and if he ever needed a place to stay he could come here. The butler said he would have to check with Mr Williams, the man of the house, and he went to go find him while Jake stood in the entry way. Then he heard footsteps coming around the corner, and a voice saying "What’s got you two riled up all of a sudden?" When he looked up he saw Vicky standing right in front of him. She was the most beautiful sight in the entire world. He wanted to grab her and take her in his arms, but he couldn’t, not yet. He couldn’t blow his cover, so he just said "Hello" and she said "Hello " back. Vicky didn’t recognize Jake but she did wonder if this man in front of her had been sent by him. She asked him his name and he told her that he was John Fiztgerald, a friend of Alec Wallace. Vicky didn’t know quite what to think. She decided then and there she would have to find out more about this man. Jake was just standing there looking at Vicky when he heard more footsteps approaching then he saw "Mr Williams" approaching. All the joy that he had felt at seeing Vicky was instantly replaced with shock and anger.
