True Love Never Dies, Part 2
Front yard of the cottage --
evening
Jake, Steven and Kirkland silently walk up to the cottage. Donna throws
open the front door and she and Marley rush out.
D: (grabs Kirkland in a hug) "Oh, my darlings. My beautiful, brave
darlings."
As Marley and Donna greet and embrace the boys, Jake look up at the cottage
and remembers.
*****
Jake runs through the pouring rain up to the cottage.
J: "Hey, Vic. You in there?"
Vicky throws open the door and drags Jake in.
V: "Hi. Come in."
J: "I was going to knock on the door, but..."
Jake stops and looks around the room. The entire place is run-down and
falling apart.
V: "Never mind about that. All right. Look at this place. I
mean, look
at this. Is this heaven?"
J: "This looks more like hell to me, but..." (looks at Vicky) "What
are you
doing? What are you doing? You get lost in the middle of nowhere in the
biggest thunderstorm of the year."
V: "Jake, look at this place." (she looks around) "I mean, how cozy
and how
quaint it is. Is this amazing?"
J: "Yeah, if you like hanging with Barnaby Collins."
V: "Oh, come on. I'm talking about potential."
J: "Potential. Oh, I see potential. I see potential for disaster
here.
That's what the potential I see is."
V: "What do you mean?"
J: "What are you talking about what I mean? A six year old could get
through that lock. There's no security system here, Vicky."
V: "Oh, those are minor details."
J: "What are you talking about, 'minor details'?"
V: "All right, if you're so paranoid, I'll get a security system. But,
I'm
talking about workmanship and details."
Vicky leads Jake over to the middle of the room, towards the fireplace.
V: "I mean, look at this fireplace. And you should see the backyard.
It
is absolutely huge. There is this most gorgeous willow tree. And the
bells. I mean, the bells." (sighs)
*****
S: "Jake? Hey, Jake. Are you coming in?"
Jake looks up at Steven and smiles that lopsided smile of his.
J: "Yeah, buddy, I'm coming."
Jake follows Steven inside the cottage.
