Forever, Part 3

The following Wednesday Christy arrives on the porch of the cottage with Joshua on her hip.  She rings the door bell and Steven answers.

Steven: You must be Christy.  Hi! My mom and Dad are in the kitchen. But, dont worry.  I dont think my Moms doing anything dangerous like cooking!!  Oh, I'm supposed to ask you if you or Josh want anything to drink.

Christy: No. We're fine.  Thanks.  Are you Steven?

Steven: Yeah, the squirt over there is Kirk.  Does he walk? (pointing to Joshua)

Christy: Oh, yes.  Just not really all that big of a talker just yet.

Steven: Can we play with him?  I promise to watch out for him.  I'm the big brother, you know.  We got this really cool treehouse and video games and swings out back.

Joshua: Sings!! (Squiggling out of her arms)

Steven: Yeah, swings!!  Youre gonna fit right in here.  I can tell.

Christy: Okay.  But keep an eye on him, please, he's little and not used to anyone else but me, ok?

Steven: Sure, leave it to me, I got it covered.  (all three boys head out back)

Begins looking at the pictures of Marley and Tyrone and Michael and all the others scattered around the house.

Christy: Man, Jake!  You've got a real family thing going on here, don't you?  Always figured you were kinda like me.  All alone in the world.  You and Vicky.

Vicky: (who has overheard this)  We were, growing up we were all alone.  We had each other and Bridget and that was it.  How about you, Christy?

Christy: Actually, if we're going to be friends, you should use my name.  Christy is just a nickname Jake came up with for my umm . . . professional name..

Vicky: Oh. Okay.  What do you want us to call you?

Christy: Any form of Rebecca.  Becky or Becca will be fine.

Vicky: Becca it is then.  You haven't answered my question, though.

Becca: What question?

Vicky: Have you always been alone?  What's the deal with your family?  You can't have appeared out of nowhere.

Becca: My mother died when I was Josh's age.   My father was an extremely violent man and I ran away when I was 10.  I've been looking after myself even before that though.  I've always been on my own.

Vicky: Yeah, us too.

Becca: All of these pictures though . . .

Vicky: My parents, my sister and brother.  But I didn't meet any of them until Jake and I were 18.  Do you have any siblings?

Becca: I don't know why Im telling you this but, yeah, I had 3 sisters and a brother.  All were considerably older except the one sister who was about your age.

Vicky: Ever think of getting in touch with them?

Becca: No.  I never really fit in with them anyway.  The only thing I learned from my "family" was how to survive and that you cant depend on anyone but yourself.  And that's all Im going to say about it!

Vicky: I just thought . . .

Becca: Well, don't.  As far as I'm concerned my life began at age ten.

Vicky: Okay.  Im sorry . . .

Jake comes in and Becca goes over to him.

Vicky: Someone must be wondering where you are.  Someone must care.  And I'm gonna find them!

(Next scene opens at the park.  We see Becca, Joshua, Jake, Vicky, Steven and Kirkland arriving at the park looking for a place to put all their stuff.  Steven takes Joshua's hand and all three boys head toward the swings with shouts of "Dont go anywhere I cant see you!" from both Becca and Vicky)

Becca: This is nice.  Having a picnic with friends like I was a normal person or something.

Jake: You gotta stop doing that.  You are a normal . . . (Both Becca and Vicky shoot him a look)

Vicky: What my adorable and well-meaning husband means is that abnormal is good.  We're not exactly Ozzie and Harriet either, you know.

Jake: Yeah.  And we wouldn't want it any other way!

Becca: But . . .

Vicky: But nothing.  Youre a good person, thats all you can do.  So no more dumping on your life.  You don't like your job, you get out..

Becca: It's not that simple.  I have to support Joshua and without a High School degree even I don't have a lot of options.  It beats the streets.

Vicky: Do you want a different life?

Becca: Yes.

Vicky: Good.  Tomorrow you go and quit that lousy bar and . . .

Becca: Wait.  Wanting something and being able to accomplish it are two very different things.  I need the money that lousy bar pays.

Vicky: Let me let you in on a little secret here.  Jake and I are loaded.  I mean really.  Bouqou (dont know how to spell that but its pronounced "booquoo" and its French I think! LOL)  bucks!  So you quit the bar and we find you a better place to live.  As a matter of fact . . . what do you think of Bay City?

Becca: I can take care of myself!!!  I dont need you to . . .

Vicky: I know you can, but you don't always have to do it on your own.  Jake taught me that.  It's okay to lean on your friends, you know.

Jake: She's as stubborn as you are Becca.  Once she gets an idea into her head, there's no stopping her.

Vicky: Let us do this for you.  Please.  Look at it as payback.  You looked after him when I couldn't.  And when was the last time someone looked after you anyway?

Becca: I was 16. (with a dreamy/sad look on her face)

Vicky: Then you're long past due.

Jake: I knew you guys were going to like each other.  (Goes to play with the boys)

Becca: All right.  All right.  Where did you say we were before, Bay City?

Vicky: Yeah, what do you think?

Becca: I don't know.

Vicky: I do.  I think Bay view Towers would be just great for you.  Think about it.  You and Josh could come here and play, you could work and/or go to school . . . you could come over whenever.  It'd be great.  What's not to love?

Becca: (staring somewhat) Okay.  Bay City, here we come!

Vicky: Good.  This is going to be great.  (She walks off to play with everyone.  Becca follows and looks back)

Becca: Bay City?  Who'd have thunk it?  (She follows Vicky and get covered in water by the boys.  All get into a big water fight.)

(Several weeks later.  Vicky and Becca have become VERY close as it turns out that Becca can cook.  The six of then have dinner together almost every night either at Jake and Vickys or at Becca's new apt. in Bay View Towers.  Becca is waitressing at Sassy's.  She hasnt really met anyone else in Bay City and pretty much avoids everyone except J&V and co.  So, Vicky decides to introduce her to a few people.  The scene opens at the cottage right before dinner in late Winter.  Becca and Vicky are in the kitchen, Jake and the boys are upstairs. There is a knock at the door.)

Vicky: Hey,Becca!  Why don't you got get the door?

Becca: (looking at her inquisitively) All right.  But, only if you promise not to touch anything 'til I get back!!!

Vicky: Geez! You act like I might ruin it or something?!?!

Becca: Promise me, Vick!!

Vicky: I promise!  Go get the door!

(Becca opens the door and sees Nick and Remy standing there.  Nick and Becca are both visibly surprised (if not shocked) to see one another and obviously recognize the other but say nothing.)

Remy:Are Jake and Vicky here?

Becca: (startled by Remy's voice suddenly turns her head completely toward Remy as if to come back to reality.)  Yeah, Um . . . Vickys in the kitchen.

Remy: Uh-Oh!

Becca: Yeah, well I made her promise not to touch anything.  Who are you?

(Nick laughs)

Remy: I'm sorry.  My name's Remy.  And this is Nick, he's Vicky's brother.

Becca: You're Vicky's brother?

Nick: Long story.

Remy: And you must be Becca, Vicky's friend.

Becca: I'm sorry, yeah.  Remy, right?  Come in.  You're here for dinner?  It'll just be a sec.

Vicky: (enters and sees all three in the living room) Oh, good.  You've met.

Nick and Becca: Us?  No.  We haven't.  We don't know each other at all.

Remy: They met at the door.

Vicky: Yeah.  That's what I meant, guys.

Nick and Becca: Oh.

(Weird looks are exchanged all around)

Remy: So, what's for dinner?

Becca: Well, The kids are having Mac&Cheese, and the rest of us are eating veggie lasagna.  Sound good?

Remy: Great.  But, that sounds almost healthy.  How'd you swing that?

Becca: It's pasta.  Jake and Vicky have a thing for anything with pasta!!

Nick: Need help with the salad?

Becca: (smiling) Yeah?  You wanna make it?

Nick: Of course.  My speciality.

(Becca  and Nick head back into the kitchen.  Remy and Vicky look at each other.)

Vicky: My brother offering to fix a salad!  You sure are training him well, Remy!

Remy: He's never even stepped into a kitchen with me!  I wonder, should I be jealous?

Vicky: I know what you mean . . . (looking towards the kitchen) I'd swear they knew each other.

(Cut to the kitchen.  Nick is getting Veggies out and Becca is checking on the Lasagna.)

Nick: It's good to see you, Becky.

Becca: I can't seem to stay out of your life, can I?

Nick: You keep trying though.  I wish you'd stop.

Becca: Nick . . .

Nick: All right, all right.  So, what are  you doing here?  In my sister's house of all places!

Becca: I met Jake in this bar I was working in and helped him with a few stories and . . . then Vicky and I met as well . . . and I thin they've kind of adopted us.

Nick: I don't want to know what you were doing in that "bar", do I?

Becca: Nope.  But, it doesn't exactly take a whole lot of thought.  I didn't have a lot of options.

Nick: You never do.  Us?

Becca: Yes.  Me and the man in my life.

Nick: Hmmm . . . (Uncomfortably) Serious?

Becca: (smiling devilishly) Very. We're talking lifetime commitment here.

Nick: Really?  Love him?

Becca: Heart and soul.

Nick: Oh.  Well . . . where is Mr. Wonderful?

Becca: Upstairs . . . taking his nap. (starting to giggle)

Nick: His NAP?

Becca: He's two, Nick.  My son, Joshua.

Nick: You didn't.

Becca: I told you I'd always loved your middle name.  Actually, his whole name is Joshua Nicholas.

Nick: Is he . . . ?

Becca: Do the math, darling.  We haven't seen each other in more than three years.

Nick: Just checking.  So, when do I get to see the little guy.  Bet he looks just like you.

Becca: Don't know about that.  Looks a little like . . . never mind.

Nick: One of your sisters?

Becca: Yeah.  I should know better than to hide anything from you.  I've been thinking a lot about them lately.

Nick: Really?  The dreams again?

Becca: Some.  But mostly it's your pushy sister!!  She's so positive that I should look for them.

Nick: She's actually got you talking about them?  Why don't you just tell her the truth?

Becca: What?  That my earliest memory is waking up with you telling me I was going to be fine.  That I was running from a man who claimed to be my father who then promptly proceeded to hit me with his car?  That he claimed I was crazy and had me institutionalized and drugged out of my mind and that I ran away and lived on the streets for two and a half years?  That he finally caught up to me and almost killed me when I was fourteen?  That you had to hide me in an abandoned warehouse?  What, EXACTLY, should I tell her?

Nick: I'm sorry, Becky.  Tell her what you want.  Just, she might understand.  It might make her stop.  You said they'd kind of "adopted" you.  Thought it'd make things easier.  I know how you feel about lying to the people you care about.

Becca: No. I'm sorry.  I shouldn't have . . . I know it must hurt for you to think about it too.  I just can't.  What if he's still out there?  I just can't put them in that kind of danger.  I won't.

Nick: (starts to move to hold her) Becky Blue . . .

(Vicky comes in)

Vicky: Um . . . Am I interrupting anything?

(Becca has turned around pretending to get spices or something)

Nick: Of course not!

Vicky: Everyone's getting hungry . . . We were wondering about an ETA on dinner.

Becca: Almost done. Give us five minutes.

Vicky: Ok. So I'll go get the boys away from that video game Jake got them? (She leaves)

Nick: You ok?

Becca: Of course I'm okay.  You know that, don'tcha, Nicky?

Nick: GOD, its good to see you, Rebecca Manderley.

Becca: (smiling again, fully recovered) Go put the salad out.

Nick: Yeah, I'm going.

Becca: (Looking at door) Always good to see you too, Nick Terry. (Goes to get Joshua up from his nap)

(Scene opens with all seated at the dinner table)

Jake: The dinner was great, Becca.  But, you know, my "Shrimp Fradiablo" is the best!!  Have I made that for you?  It's better than that cop turned restauranteur man that Paulina married.

Vicky: Don't get him started on his "Shrimp Fradiablo"!  Of course, neither one of you can top my speciality of the house!!!

Steven: Pizza Delivered!!!!

Vicky: Okay, Okay.  The important thing here is that I didn't cook and we have good friends and family all around.

Becca: Ugh!!  When did you become Queen of Mush?!?

Remy: Oh, come on.  Family is a wonderful thing.  My Mom is the most important person in my life.

Nick: Okay, Okay.  Before we all puke, now for Chocolate Cream Pie!!

Steven & Kirkland: Cool!

Jake: Yeah, cool!

Vicky: How'd you know she made Chocolate Cream Pie?

Joshua: Mommy always makes "late" pie!

Nick: Yeah, she does.  (winks at Becca, who smiles)

Vicky: (to Becca) Let's go and get it, then.

Remy: So why didn't you tell me you knew Becca?

Nick: I don't.  Well, not really.

Jake: Oh, come on  How long have you two known each other?

Remy: You obviously know her, it's ok.  I just wondered.

Nick: I don't know what you guys are talking about! (Gets up and storms outside)

Remy: (starts to get up to go after him) I . . . guess I should go after him (as Becca and Vicky return)

Becca: Where'd he go?

Jake: I guess we just went a little too far.

Becca: What did you say?  He loves this!!

Kirk: He got upset cause Jake and Remy asked him about you. (Steven kicks him under the table) OW!!!

Becca: (laughs) He does have a quick temper still, I see.

Jake: I didn't mean to bug the guy it's just obvious you two know each other..

Becca: Yeah, we do.  But it's been a while and he's always been a little overprotective where it comes to me. Maybe I should go and calm him down.

Kirk: He's fine.  Remy's out there.

Steven: KIRK!!

Kirk: What?!?!

Becca: Oh. OK (looks at Joshua) you need a bath, handsome.  We should get home.  (picks Joshua up)

Vicky: It's snowing outside . . . Stay here until it stops.

Becca: Don't be silly!!  That could take all night.  The longer we stay, the worse it will get out there!

Jake: Yeah, give the kid a bath here.  When it stops snowing, you can go.  Even if it is tomorrow.

Becca: (looking out the window) Well . . . (Vicky goes over to her at the window)

Vicky: (almost pleading) Stay. Okay?  I really don't want you to drive anywhere in the snow.  Please.

Becca: You really don't like ANYONE to drive in the snow, do you?

Vicky: Well, you're not the only one with a past you don't want to talk about.  Stay here tonight, okay?

Becca: You're really bugged, huh?  Okay.  But this doesn't mean I can't take care of myself.

Vicky: I got it, I got it.  Think of it as you helping me, okay?  I know "you can take care of yourself and anyone else who comes along!"

Becca: All right, I'll go and give Josh his bath.

Vicky: Becca's staying everyone!!

Steven&Kirk: Great! A sleep over!!

Steven: I want Becca in my room!!

Kirk: Then I get Josh!!

(Nick comes back in)

Vicky: Um . . . Where's Remy?

Nick: She had to go home.  Where'd Becca and the kid go?

Vicky: I'll go see if they found everything ok.  (kisses Jake and exits)

Jake: MMMMM! Gotta love that!  Boys, go get ready for bed while Uncle Nick and I clear the table

Kirk: But, I wanna watch a video!!

Steven: Jake needs to talk to Uncle Nick without is here, dummy!

Jake: Don't tease your brother, Steven

Steven: But . . .

Jake: Just go, okay?

Steven: Come on, Kirk

Jake: Thanks (winks at the boys)

Nick: So, we just put these in the sink or what?

Jake: What happened with Remy?

Nick: We had a fight, okay?  No big, I'll apologize tomorrow.  Things'll be cool.  Don't worry,

Jake: I didn't mean to . . .

Nick: Not your fault. I should've  just admitted that I knew Becky.

Jake: Why didn't you?  I mean it's not a crime to have past with someone!!  If it were, Vicky and I would've been tried, convicted, and sentenced years ago!!

Nick: Becky always said I lost all judgment where it comes to her.  It's just an automatic response, ya know.

Jake: What?  To deny all knowledge of her?

Nick: No!!!  To protect her!!  T o hide her!!

(Upstairs in the bathroom.  Becca is giving Josh a bath as Vicky comes in)

Vicky: So'd you find everything okay?

Becca: It's not like I havent been here before.  I got it. What did you really come up here for?

Vicky: Gee, can't a girl come up here to check on a friend?  Can't I be nice?

Becca: You and I will never be considered "nice".  What do you want, Vick?

Vicky: Okay, so subtlety has never been one of my qualities, okay?

Becca: The word shouldn't even be in your vocabulary, girlfriend!

Vicky: Are you going to tell me about you and my brother or not?

Becca: Your brother? Oh! Nick, you mean . . . I guess I'm not used to him having a family.

Vicky: Yeah, Nick . . . So what's the deal?

Becca: We're friends, there is no deal.

Vicky: And, so . . . you known him long!

Becca: And so . . . nothing.  I've known him for a while, I guess.  (shrugging shoulders and trying to act as nonchalant as possible)

Vicky: How long is a while?

Becca: I don't know, fifteen years or so.

Vicky: (counting on her fingers) Since you were ten?  And you've never gotten together?  C'mon, girl, dish!

Becca: (hand to chest, feigning shock) Vicky!! There's nothing to tell . . . We drift in and out of each other's lives that's all.  We're friends, that's all.  He's gotten me out of a few scrapes.

Vicky: (mockingly) not that you couldn't have handled it yourself . . .

Becca: Right . . . and I've helped him every now and again.

Vicky: Just friends, Right.   Sounds like a blonde I know.

Becca: Maybe you should introduce us, I bet we'd be friends.

Vicky: I have and you are . . . I used to say that kind of thing all the time about me and Jake.  "We're just best friends."  I'd say "We've known each other forever, that's all." Well, honey, we were never "just" anything. Even when we were in  love with other people, WE always came first.  Did you know that BOTH of our first marriages ended because of each other?

Becca: But you're different . . . (looking a little skeptical) How did your first marriage end?  Both of you?

Vicky: We slept together.  Basically, we married the wrong people.  We both married someone who was the exact opposite of each other.  Our spouses would've been happier together than they were with us.  Actually, they were!  They got engaged.

Becca: Wait a minute . . . Your first husband and Jake's first wife were engaged?!?  Did they get married?

Vicky: No, they didn't.  But, the whole thing is kind of a long story.  The point is . . . We couldn't get each other out of our hearts. AND believe me we tried.  We tried to hate each other for a long time.  It just never worked.

Becca: You were meant to be together.  Jake McKinnon was put here on this Earth to be your husband.  You know, he told me that.

Vicky: He did?  (Becca picks Joshua up out of the tub and dries him off and they put him to bed.  He's so tired, he's asleep before his little head hits the pillow,)

Becca: Yeah, it's why we became friends.  I mean here was this guy coming into a strip bar, for god's sake, getting absolutely blotto EVERY NIGHT, starting fights, rambling incessantly about some blonde chick named Vicky. But, does he watch any of the shows?  Does even look at a single girl? NOPE!! Not a one!!  Sits with his back to the stage!  We thought maybe he was gay or something so I went up to ask him how come.  I doubt he remembers any of this since I think he was probably already three sheets to the wind, but . . . He tells me his whole reason for living, his reason for being on this planet was to be with his wife who had betrayed him (Vicky shifts uncomfortably)  He then told me all about you, your ENTIRE life together . . . what had happened, everything since the beginning . . . speaking of which, this guy you married and then cheated on with Jake . . . His name Jaime or something?

Vicky: Yeah . . . What else did Jake say?

Becca: Well, we didn't really talk much again till it came around to being my turn to take him home.  But, he was sooo drunk, he was basically passed out and when I asked him how to get him home, all he said was "Vicky . . . Home is Vicky."  Well, since I knew he didn't live in town and I wasn't about to go searching through every phone book within driving distance to look for a "Vicky", I took him to my place.  He passed out completely on my couch.  Early the next morning, Josh came wandering out and Jake called him "Steven."  I was making breakfast and Josh asked me who "Steven" was, and I guess Jake overheard and I guess it woke him up a little cause, he told Josh that Steven was his oldest son and that when he was Joshs age he looked just like Josh.

Vicky: He really used the word "son"?

Becca: OH YEAH.  Everyone who knows Jake knows two things about him.  He has a wife and two sons.  You guys are his WHOLE ENTIRE life.  I've never met anyone like him before.  Nick and I were NEVER like that.

Vicky: We weren't either for a long time.  Never?  You seem pretty close to me.

Becca: You're pushing it.  Really, were close friends, that's all.  Really, I mean it, really, Vicky.  (desperate to change the subject) Hey, I want some pie before the guys finish it.  Coming?

Vicky: Yeah, in a minute.  That's THREE "reallys" , Becca.  There's more to you two, I can tell.  But, I'll find out, I always do.

(Later that night.  Jake and Vicky have put the boys to bed and are now going to bed themselves.)

Vicky: Well, everyone's all set.  You know, I like having Becca and Joshua here.  There's something right about it, I can't explain it, there's just something . . .

Jake: Come here, you. MMMM.  You feel definitely right to me (kissing and caressing her)

Vicky:( playing with his chest a little) Do you know how much I love you?  How much I need and want you?

Jake: Yeah.  But, it never hurts to hear it.

Vicky: You make my life perfect, complete, you make me complete.  I couldn't imagine myself or my life without you.
Jake: Not a problem since you'll never have to.  Jake and Vicky 4-ever.

Vicky: Promise?

Jake: Promise.

(They begin to make love as we fade out)

(Next morning we see Jake and Vicky cleaning breakfast dishes)

Vicky: (with Jake's arms around her washing dishes and playing with her at the same time) This is nice.  Becca should have this.

Jake: All I'm interested in right now is you . . . well, me and you . . .

Vicky: (turning around in mock seriousness) Jake!!!  I'm serious!

Jake: So am I!!

Vicky: I just want her to be happy.

Jake: You certainly are interested in Becca's life, aren't you?

Vicky: It's kinda weird.  I know we haven't known her that long . . . but I feel about her almost the way I do about Marley.

Jake: Becca is NOTHING  like Marley.  I'm not even sure they'd get along.

Vicky: I think they would, but that's not what I'm talking about.  I feel like Becca and Joshua belong with us . . . as a part of this family.

Jake: You mean she belongs with NICK.

Vicky: You saw how they were last night.

Jake: Yes, but first, Nick already has a girlfriend, and second, don't you think that's up to Nick and Becca?

Vicky: What girlfriend?  He is not serious about her.

Jake: Remy!  When she was in the hospital, he looked pretty serious to me!

Vicky: I know when my brother is serious, Jake.  Remy's a nice girl but he doesn't feel about her the way he did Sofia Carlino.  They'll break up shortly.  Trust me on this.  Remy is like a Jaime Frame to him.

Jake: So I take it this is your new project, huh?  To get your brother and Becca together?  Gee, and I had a different project in mind for you . . . or rather, for US.

Vicky: Well . . . I can do more than one thing at a time, you know.  Becca and Nick arent really going to take THAT much of my attention . . . What did you have in mind?

Jake: (Kissing her forehead, nose and mouth on down) Oh, a little of this, a little of that . . .

Vicky: (Stretching her neck and beginning to really enjoy herself here) How come only a little?  How come not a LOT of that? (They continue to kiss each time a little more passionately)

Jake: That's not all I had in mind, Vicky.  But we should go somewhere else for the rest, I think.

Vicky: My my . . . this sounds serious!  What did you have in mind EXACTLY?

Jake: A baby, Vicky.  I want a little girl with blonde hair and those amazing eyes of yours.

Vicky: Why not dark hair and your eyes?

Jake: Our boys look like you . . . Why shouldn't our little girl?

Vicky: (remembering Becca's words from last night and realizing the truth of them as if for the first time) You really DO think of Steven and Kirk that way, don't you?

Jake: Of course I do, you don't mind do you?

Vicky: NO!  I love that you feel that way.  I love you.  You're already the best father.  A little girl would be incredibly lucky to have you.

Jake: So, should we get down to business? (smiling that devilish melt you at your knees Jake McKinnon smile)

Vicky: Business?  This is all pleasure to me! (with that look on her face that just says she loves him without having to say a word)

Jake: Race you upstairs?

Vicky: (getting a head start) Last one in bed's a rotten egg!!!

(A few weeks later..  Becca has gone to pick up Vicky for lunch with Joshua in tow)

Becca: You sure it's okay to leave Joshua here with your babysitter?  She won't mind?

Vicky: Oh, please.  It's fine.  You and Josh are like family.  Forget about it.

Becca: (smiles) I don't know how it happened, Vick.  One day I'm a stripper, all alone in the world with no one except my two year old son . . . and now I'm leaving him here with two boys who are like cousins or big brothers or something.  Josh completely thinks Kirk knows everything and Steven . . . well, let's just say Josh thinks he has a red cape  with a big "S" hidden somewhere in his closet!!!

Vicky: They're fond of him too.  Kirk likes having someone younger around.

Becca: How's that going?

Vicky: Nothing yet.  I need to warn you about something else though, or more specifically, someone else . . .

Becca: Who?

Vicky: We're having lunch at The Harbor Club.  My mother owns it and she can be a little . . . well . . . dramatic.

Becca: I can deal with dramatic, Vick.

Vicky: Well . . . She's hard to describe though.  Shes wonderful, but, she can be . . .

Becca: I'll be fine.  Stop worrying.  I'll be fine.  I'm not a kid.  I can take care of myself, you know.

Vicky: OH, GOD.  Let's not get into that again!!! (the boys come downstairs)

Steven and Kirk: Oh good!!  Josh's staying?!?!

Joshua: (squiggling out of Beccas arms) Me go!

Becca: All right, I'll let you go. (As they walk off)

Steven: I know , I'll watch out for him "Aunt" Becca!!

Becca &Vicky: Thanks, Steven!

(Next scene opens with Becca &Vicky arriving at the Harbor Club)

Vicky: So, this is the Harbor Club!  I can't believe you haven't been here yet.  You've been in town for what?  A couple of months now?

Becca: This really isn't exactly my style, you know.  I'm more of the Carlino's type.

Vicky: So are Jake and I, but Mom owns it so . . . speaking of Donna, there she is..

(Donna walks over and kisses Vicky on the cheek)

Donna: So, you must be Rebecca, Victoria's friend from Chicago.

Becca: Actually, "Becca" would be fine, Mrs. Hudson.

Donna: Mrs Hudson!!!  You make me feel 100 years old, darling.  "Mrs Hudson" is my Michael's mother!  My name is Donna.

Becca: (laughs) OK, Donna.

Donna: Henri, get my daughter and her friend a table.  I'll come and join you later.

Vicky: Well, that's my mother.

Becca: Shes never gonna call me anything but "Rebecca", is she?

Vicky: Nope.  She's the only one on the planet who calls me "Victoria".  I'd just get used to it.

(They order and chat a little and then Nick walks in  He and Becca immediately notice one another and smile)

Vicky: You know your eyes sparkle whenever you see Nick.

Becca: Don't be ridiculous, Vicky.  You should see you and Jake sometimes.

Vicky: That's my point!!  Your whole face, whole demeanor changes.

Becca: Oh, Vicky.  You're just very happily married and you worship your husband and you want everyone else to be that way.  If it wasn't sooo cute, it'd be disgusting.

(Nick walks over)

Nick: Care to dance?

Becca: There's no . . . ("Crystal Blue Persuasion" comes on the sound system and Becca's eyes tear)

Nick: No more pretending,Becky.

Becca: You sure?

Nick: Never been more sure of anything in my whole life.  (He takes her hand and they dance)

Vicky: Now that's better!!  Good job, little brother.   One of you is going to explain about this song though.

(Donna notices them and goes over to sit with Vicky)

Donna: So, tell me about this girl, Victoria.

Vicky: I don't know much really, Mother.  She has a two year old son and . . .

Donna: Well, she obviously knows Nick . . .

Vicky: For quite some time I understand . . .

Donna: What else?

Vicky: Not much else, really.  She's had it real rough and doesn't like to talk much about her past.  Actually, I don't think she even likes to THINK about it.

Donna: Nick and Remy broke up.

Vicky: (smiles) Oh . . .

Donna: Because of her.  I think he's in love with her Victoria.

Vicky: Well, there's definitely SOMETHING  between them.  Although, they both deny it.

Donna: (Staring intently at Becca)  You know If I didn't know any better, she looks like . . .

Vicky: Who?

Donna: (suddenly quite pale) No one.  I have to be mistaken . . . She's . . . All this time . . . It's NOT possible . . .

Vicky: Mother, are you all right?

Donna: Of course I am!  I have to make a phone call, darling.

Vicky: That was weird!

(Nick and Becca return and they both sit down with Vicky)

Vicky: Becca, Have you ever lived in Bay City before?

Becca: I don't think so . . . Why do you ask?

Vicky: My Mom seemed to think you looked familiar.  I was just wondering if she knew your family or something.

Nick: I doubt it, Vicky.  She's always lived in Chicago.  (Changing the subject quickly) What about dinner tonight? Jake and I were talking and you guys should all come over to the farm.  Donna too.

Becca: What would you like me to do with Joshua?

Nick: Bring him, of course!!  All the boys!  I want it to be a real family dinner.  I already invited Marley and Tyrone.

Vicky: (wondering about Jake, Marley, AND Tyrone all in one place at the same time)  And Jake agreed to this?

Nick: Yeah, but he said it was up to you.  So, what time you coming?

Becca: Vicky's been feeling a little worn out lately.  I don't know if she's up to it.

Nick: Yeah, Jake said something like that.  What's wrong?

Becca: I think she's getting the flu or something.

Nick: Oh. Well, maybe you and Jake should stay home then.  I'll watch the boys for you.

Becca: Yeah, I can watch them at your house.  You have noo experience with kids!

Nick: I do too!!  I'm great with kids. You'll see.

Vicky: Hang on you two!! I'm not dying here!!  I can make my own decisions and take care of my own kids!  Yes, Nick you are great with them, though.

Becca: Really?

Nick: See!

Vicky: Of course Jake and I will come.  What time?

Nick: Around 5 or 6

Becca: I'll try and get their a little earlier to help with dinner.

Nick: I'll come and get you.  You don't know how to get to my place here.

Vicky: (Noticing how Nick is looking at Becca) Hmmm . . . Anyone going to tell me the deal with the song?

Becca: What song?

Nick: What deal?

Vicky: You guys are terrible liars, you know that?

Becca: Actually, I am a GREAT liar.  You can just always tell what I'm thinking.

Nick: You mean "Crystal Blue Persuasion?"  Its just a song, Vick.  You know how much Donna likes all that old stuff.

Vicky: Yeah and if I go and ask her right now why she played that particular song, what would happen?

Becca: It's just a song I like, OK Vick?  You are sooo nosy!

Vicky: What? First I'm too sick to go to dinner with my own family, and now you guys are attacking me?!?!

Becca: You know how I feel about you, Vicky McKinnon.  I just don't want to talk about the past, and sometimes, I feel like that's ALL you want to talk about!  Sorry.

Vicky: That's Okay.   I am pretty nosy.  Friends?

Becca: The best!  Actually, you should feel honored, really.  You know more about me than anyone else, save Nick.  Something about you.  Like We've known each other before or something.

Vicky: I was just telling Jake the same thing! You guys ready to go? (She stands up and sits right back down almost falling into the chair)

Becca and Nick: You okay?

Vicky: I'm fine. I just got up too fast.

Becca: You sure?  You haven't been feeling well, and you hardly ate any lunch.

Vicky: Wasn't hungry.

Becca: Lunch was your idea, since you said you didn't feel like eating this morning either!

Vicky : I'm fine, See? (Stands up and faints dead away.  Nick catches her and sits her down in the chair.)

Donna: (who has come over to see what's wrong) Victoria!  What happened?

Becca: (smiling) We should take her to the Doctor.

Donna: Obviously! But, why are you so happy?!?!

Nick: We can take my car.

Donna: An ambulance . . . The best Doctors . . .

Becca: Calm down, Donna.  I'm sure she's okay.  I promise.  I make sure she's okay.  C'mon Nick. (Vicky starts to wake up)

Vicky: What . . . happened?

Donna: Are you all right darling?  Victoria?

Becca: (In a very soothing voice) We're taking you to BCUH.  Ok? You'll be fine.  Why don't you follow us in your car, Donna.  She's ok. (Becca and Nick carrying his sister exit)

Donna: I am going to find out who that girl is EXACTLY!!  No one tells me how to take care  of my girls!!  And yet . . . when she said that Victoria was going to be okay . . . I have got to find out who she is!!! (Leaves to go to the hospital)

Scene opens in a hospital room.  We see Nick and Becca sitting with Vicky who is in a bed looking much better)

Vicky: I don't know what all of this fuss is about.  I feel fine.  I just got a little lightheaded. (Dr. enters and talks to Vicky.  Dr. is an older stiff-as-a-board looking man)

Dr: Mrs. McKinnon?  I have the results of your tests.  (looks around the room)  Where's your husband?

Vicky: He's at work.  Why?  Nothing's wrong with me is it?

Dr.: You might want to call him.  He'll want to hear this.

Nick: You're scaring my sister, Doc.  Just get on with it.

Dr.: I'm sorry.  Are you sure you don't want your husband here, Mrs. McKinnon?

Vicky: What's wrong?

Becca: Nothing's wrong is it, Doctor.  She's perfectly healthy, isn't she?

Dr.: Well, if you're not going to call your husband, I'll need to talk to you in private.

Vicky: These people are family.

Dr: All right.  Mrs. McKinnon all of your tests came back negative, except one.  The pregnancy test.

Becca: I knew it!

Vicky: Youre saying I'm pregnant?  I'm . . . We're . . . Jake and I are going to have a baby?

Dr: Yes.  You're eight weeks along.

Vicky: I was so scared! (Hits Dr.)  You scared me to death!!  Is the baby ok?

Dr.: The young lady was correct.  You are in perfect health . . . (rubbing his arm) if a little excitable.  Now, if you'll excuse me . . . I have other patients. (Exits)

Nick: Was it just me or was that guy a real jerk!?!?

(Becca and Vicky look at each other and start screaming and crying with excitement)

Vicky: OH MY GOD!!! Jake!!  I have to tell Jake!!

Becca: He's going to die!!  I'm sooo happy for the two of you!  How are you going to tell him?

Vicky: I don't know.  Actually, this will be the first baby I've actually had with someone.

Becca and Nick: What?

Vicky: I wasn't married to Jaime when I was first pregnant with Steven and actually, Jake took better care of me than Jaime did, and Grant, well . . .

Becca: I get it.  Yeah.  I haven't exactly had the pleasure either..  I've heard it's nice.

Vicky: I have to do this right.  In fact, I'll need your help.  Okay?

Becca: Of course!

Nick: Whatever you want, sis.

Vicky: Okay.  First thing . . . No one, and I mean no one, knows about this, OK?
 No Remy, No Donna, okay?

Nick: Remy's not a problem.  We broke up.

Vicky: Mom mentioned that.

Becca: Oh.  I'm so sorry Nick.  Hope it wasn't anything I did.

Nick: Don't worry about it.  I'm not.

Vicky: (looking out the window seeing Donna coming in) Here comes Donna. Okay?  You both with me?

Becca: Yes.

Nick: I'm in too.

Donna: Are you all right Victoria?

Vicky: Yeah, I'm fine Mom.  Just didn't eat enough today and got a little light headed.

Donna: I guess with your eating habits I should be grateful you don't pass out more often!!

Becca: See?  I told you there was nothing to worry about.  Everything's taken care of.

Nick: Actually, Donna (who is looking inquisitively at Becca) I'm glad you're here.  I'm having a family dinner tonight at the farm.  Can you come?

Donna: At the farm?  I haven't really been there since . . .

Nick: I know.  That's why I'm having it there.  It's a family farm..  That's what Dad wanted.

Donna: (with tears and a great deal of sadness that seems to be radiating from her body) I would love to come.

Nick: Good.  See you around 6.

Becca: (Takes Donnas hands and looks directly into her eyes) I'm soo sorry.

Nick: (looks at watch) We have to go if we're going to get this thing together.  See you two later.  Vick, can you catch a ride home with Donna?

Vicky: Absolutely.  Thanks. (winks at them and Becca winks back)

(Nick and Becca leave)

Donna: Why did she do that?

Vicky: (from behind a dressing curtain) do what? Who?

Donna: That girl, Rebecca.  Your friend.

Vicky: What did she do?

Donna: When I said I'd go to the dinner party . . . She took my hands and seemed to express her condolences about Michael.

Vicky: That's just Becca.  She's like that.  She just probably could
tell you were upset.

Donna: And before . . . in the Harbor Club. She kept saying you were fine and not to worry.  She seemed to KNOW you were going to be okay.

Vicky: Like I said, she's like that.  I don't know what you're getting so weirded out about,  It's just like you or Marley knowing when I'm upset.  She's the same way.

Donna: (under her breath so Vicky wont hear) But that's because we're . . . That would mean . . . Megan?

Vicky: What?  Who's Megan?

Donna: No one.    I didn't say anything about a "Megan."  I asked if you were ready.  Are you sure you're okay?

Vicky: I am just perfect, mother.  Just perfect.

(family dinner at the farm.  Scene opens with Nick and Becca (with Josh) are coming up to the porch)

Nick: So, what do you think?  It's not an abandoned warehouse and I can't order a green pepper and onion pizza from downstairs, but . . .

Becca: Oh, Nick . . . It's wonderful!  It's a real house, isn't it?  I bet it has a kitchen and everything!!!

Nick: You and kitchens!!!  I swear in another life you must have been a chef or something!!  You wanna just stare at the place from here or do you want the grand tour?

Becca: Please.

(They walk in and he shows her the house.  They stop in the kitchen.)

Nick: Well, here it is.  I know how you fond you are of this particular room in any house, so . . .

Becca: (staring in awe) Oh . . . I  bet your family had lots of dinners in here and kids were running through and taking sneak peeks at dinner and stealing cookies . . .

Nick: Well, I don't know about that.  You'd have to ask my Uncle John, or  I guess Donna might know.  Seriously, you really like the place?  I wasn't exactly thrilled to be here at first, but now there's nowhere else I'd rather be. (looking at her)

Becca: Oh, I think I'd never want to leave if I lived here.  I feel sooo safe here.  Isn't that strange?

Nick: No. It's probably my father's spirit.  I guess he's happy you're here. (Josh yawns) and I bet he's happy you're here, too, kiddo.

Becca: I think it's time for someone's nap!  Umm . . . Where can I put him?

Nick: Go upstairs and pick a bedroom.  Mine's the first one on the left as you top the stairs.  Other than that, you can put him anywhere. (Becca goes to put Joshua down for his nap)

Nick: Okay, Dad.  Now help me keep her here, OK?

(Becca comes back down)

Becca: WOW!!  That was easy.  He was asleep even before his head hit the pillow.  He NEVER goes to sleep that quickly!  Now what are we making for this big dinner of yours?

Nick: (to himself) That's a start.  Thanks, Michael.

Becca: You there?  Nick?

Nick: Yeah?  Hmmm?

Becca: I said, What are we feeding everyone?  Hmmm . . . What are Vicky's favorites?  Maybe we should do that, you know to celebrate!!

Nick: Oh. No, Jake'd figure out something was up and we promised . . .

Becca: Ok. How about Chili?

Nick: Sounds good.

(They continue to chatter as they cook.  Eventually, Nick pours them both a glass of red wine.  Donna knocks on the door and Becca goes to answer it.  She has changed clothes from earlier so as not to get messy cooking.  She is now wearing jeans, a white t-shirt cinched up around her chest (or not) no shoes, and hair in a makeshift pony tail)

Becca: Oh, good.  You're here.  Nick!!  Donna's home!

Donna: Speaking of home, you seem to have made yourself quite at home, here.  Haven't you?

Becca: It's the house. It's soo peaceful here.  I don't know why anyone would ever want to leave.

Donna: I haven't been here in quite some time, but, yes, I do recall feeling that way myself a few times.  (Nick comes in gives Donna a kiss and hands Becca her drink)

Nick: Come in, Donna.  Can I get you something?

Donna: Yes.  Some wine would be lovely.  What are you . . . (Becca has gone over to the stereo and is searching for some music and suddenly stops on an oldies station)

Becca: I thought some music would be nice.

Nick: Becky doesn't like the quiet.

Donna: Yes, but, most girls your age don't listen to this.

Becca: I like the old stuff.  You know, for background noise.  I can turn . . .

Donna: No, it's fine (to herself: Background noise?)

(Becca hears Joshua)

Becca: I think I hear someone.  I'll go get him. (She leaves and Donna stares after her)

Nick: She has a two yr old son, Donna.

(Becca and Josh return with Joshua on her hip as usual.  Donna sees the little boy and nearly faints)

Nick: Donna?

Donna: I'm fine.  Who is this adorable little boy?

Becca: This is my son, Joshua.  Joshua, this is Vicky's Mommy, Mrs. Hudson.

Joshua: Nonna?

Becca: (a little embarrassed) Umm . . .'He must have heard Steven and Kirk call you that, I'm sorry.

Donna: It's fine.  May I hold him?? (She is totally enraptured by Joshua)

Becca: Ummm . . . Sure

Donna: (Pushing the hair out of his eyes)  Were you sleeping, baby boy?  Hmmm?  Look at you with your red hair!

Becca: Yeah, I guess that runs in my family.

Donna: He looks just like you M . . . Rebecca.  (Joshua begins to play wit h one of Donna's earrings) Would you like one of these?  You like these?  (takes one off)

Becca: Oh. I'm sorry. Here (reaching to take Joshua back) Josh, give her back her earring.

Donna: Really, it's fine.  When my own girls were this age they played with my earrings too.

Nick: Girls???  I thought you didn't meet Vicky until she was like 18?

Donna: I didn't . . . I meant . . . well ,you know what I meant.  Marley did.  (Puts Joshua down at her feet and he sits there very contentedly playing with the earring)  Where's his father, dear?

Becca: That creep?  Don't know.  Don't care.

Donna: Oh.  Okay.  Well, if you need any help, let me know.  Raising a child all by yourself, at your age . . . I'd be happy to help.

Becca: Actually, we're fine.  We're a lot better off than we used to be..

Donna: Well, if you need ANYTHING . . . What did Victoria say you do?

Becca: I'm a waitress at Sassy's.

Donna: Oh, darling, that won't do.

Becca: It has too, I'm afraid I don't have much in the way of formal education.  I never even went to High School.

Donna: Well, that's the first thing we have to take care of . . . (a knock at the door)

Nick: I'll go and get that. It's probably Jake and Vicky.  (He goes to the door)

Jake and Vicky: Hi!  Are we early?

Nick: Hi.  Umm, no.  You got here just in time to see Donna completely take over Becky's life.

Donna: All right, that's settled then.  You'll come to work for me at The Harbor Club and I'll help you with your diploma.

Becca: Ummm . . . That's awfully generous offer, but totally unnecessary.

Donna: Don't be ridiculous. You don't want your son to be in the 5th grade and not be able to help him with his homework!  Right?  So, that's that.

Becca: All right, Thank you. (a little stunned)

Vicky: Hi Becca.  What's up? (an amused look on her face)

Becca: Oh, hi, Vick.  Now I know where you get it from.

Vicky: Get what from?

Becca: (laughs) Nothing.  I guess I'll just have to get used to it, that's all.

Vicky: Hi Mom.  What did you just rope Becca into?

Donna: Nothing!  I do not "rope" people into anything!!  I merely make them see what's good for them.

Vicky: yeah, right.

Donna: Darling, take your hair down.  It looks so much nicer falling around the face the way it does.

(Both Becca and Vicky reach up to take their hair down)

Vicky: MOTHER! My hair is down!

Becca: (suddenly realizing what she's doing) And yeah!  What am I doing??  Listen lady, I appreciate the help with the test and all, but I like my hair just the way it is.  And just because you somehow conned me into quitting a perfectly good job to work for you, does not mean you get to make my decisions for me!!  I make my own decisions, including how I wear my hair!!  Got it?

Vicky: You go, girl!

Jake: Now, that's the Becca we all know and love!

Donna: You're absolutely right.  You are a grown woman now, aren't you.

Becca: Yes, I am.  And I make my own decisions, thank you very much.

Donna: I'm sorry.  Of course you do.  I'm sure you've grown up to be quite the independent woman too.

Vicky: Mother?  What do you mean "grown up to be"  Earlier you were saying something about (knock at the door)

Donna: I'll get that.

Vicky: I'm sorry about Donna, she can be a little . . .

Becca: It's okay.  Something about her, though.

Donna: Look everyone!  It's Marley and Tyrone.

(Marley walks in and greets everyone.  Tyrone stays in the background.  He's not all that thrilled to have Marley hanging out with these people..  Becca goes over to Marley.)

Becca: You must be Vicky's sister, Marley.

Marley: Hi!  (gives Becca a huge hug) It's you, isn't it?

Becca: Yes. Umm, I mean . . . My name is Becca, I'm a friend of your sister's, if that's what you mean.

Marley: (suddenly VERY unsure of herself) I don't know what I mean.  I . . . do we know each other?  Donna?

Donna: No. Marley, you don't.  This is REBECCA.  She's a friend of Victoria's.  We don't know her.

Marley: Oh.  I'm sorry.  I haven't been quite myself for a while now.  I'm . . . You must think . . .

Becca: (smiles reassuringly) All I think is that everyone must be hungry and I should go and get dinner.  Vicky? Wanna help me?

Vicky: Sure.  I assume that everything is all done already?

Becca: Do you think I'd ask otherwise? (They turn and start to leave)

Jake: Hey!!  Forget somethin' honey?

Vicky: Oh! (goes to kiss him)

Becca: (rolls her eyes)  It's physically impossible for you two to keep your hands and lips off of each other, isn't it?

Vicky: Nah!  We just like it this way!

Becca: Come on, you! (They go into the kitchen)

(Later in the evening after everyone has eaten.  All except Donna are playing basketball)

Vicky: OK.  It's time for all the kids to go to bed.

Steven &Kirk: AW, Mom!

Jake: Yeah, AW Mom!

Becca: She's right. It's time for all little boys to go to bed.

Jake: Well, I have no problem with that idea, but what are we going to do with the kids? (All adults laugh.  Steven rolls his eyes and Kirk and Josh look at each other like "what is soo funny?")

Becca: Oh, I'm sure Vicky has something in mind for you when the kids go to SLEEP, Jake.

Vicky: (looking at him teasingly) Don't I always?

(Vicky, Jake, their boys and Becca & Josh start to head back into the house)

Josh: Here?

Becca: Yes, here.  You know I don't know why we even have our own apt., Joshua. It seems like you never sleep there anymore anyway!

Josh: (smiles and goes and grabs Nick by the hand) You  too!

Becca: You want Nick to put you to bed, too?

(Joshua smiles up at his Mom and nods)

Becca: Okay, handsome.  Let's go.

Nick: I'm coming.

Becca: I was talking to Joshua!

Nick: I know . . . (kids and parents go inside)

Tyrone: You okay?  You want to leave?  You seem a little distracted.

Marley: It's that girl.  Rebecca, I know her.

Tyrone: Maybe she just looks familiar. Donna seemed pretty certain that you didn't.  Where do you think you know her from?

Marley: Don't know.  But . . . I do.  It's like fringes of a dream.  When I was a teenager I used to dream about a red-headed little girl.

Tyrone: Sounds normal to me.  You said you did a lot of daydreaming as a child.

Marley: It's not like that . . .

(Adults return)

Vicky: Okay.  back to basketball . . . with one minor change in the rules . . .

Becca: What minor change in the rules, Vick?

Jake: (with a gleam of desire and admiration for his wife in his eyes) Oh, baby! I do love the way you think!

Vicky: (winking at Jake) Since the kids have gone to bed. . . I thought we'd play by "Hudson rules."

Marley: I don't know about this, Vicky.  I mean, Tyrone and I . . . and what about Becca?

Nick: Becky will love this game.  Trust me.

Vicky: Yeah.  I bet she will.  But, how do you know about this, Nick?    And Marley, if you and Tyrone don't want to play, don't play.

Nick: Dad told me.  He said that Donna once . . .

Vicky: I love that story!  Marley?  You two playing or what?

Becca: What are "Hudson rules?"

Tyrone: That's what I want to know!

Vicky: Becca, you'll love it.  Trust me.

Marley: (turning to Tyrone) We don't have to do this, if you don't want . . . it could . . . will . . . get a little . . . physical.

Tyrone: (kisses her) Physical?  With a beautiful woman?  Sounds like fun.  But if you don't . . .

Marley: (feeling  a little stronger) No, it's okay. I want to.

Vicky: Good.  Okay.  Marley, Becca you're with me. Jake, explain to Tyrone and make sure Nick gets it too.  But, if Michael really told him that story . . . (Jake pulls Vicky to him and they kiss passionately)  Save it for the game, lover boy! (the six of them divide up by sex)

Becca: Okay.  Explain.  "Hudson rules?"

Vicky: Well . . . (gives her that look like when she was trying to tell Jake that Sean had already been by the house and she thought it was a trick)  You're gonna love it.  It's sort of a combination of basketball and . . . flirting outrageously.

Becca: How outrageous are we talking here?

Marley: As far as humanly possible.  The point of the game is to so completely distract your opponent that all he really wants to do is drop right there and . . . (starts to blush)

Becca: So, basically we get to drive the guys nuts.  I could get into that.  What does this have to do with b-ball though.  And why is it "Hudson rules."

Vicky: Well, you are assigned one guy to "guard" while the rest of us try to score . . . a basket.  "Hudson" cause my parents kind of invented it.

Becca: What do you mean they invented it?  Was that what Nick was talking about?

Vicky: The story goes that before Marley and I were born, Michael and Uncle John were playing basketball out here on this very court.  Michael and Donna were dating, and when she walked up to the farm . . . I guess she didn't want to wait til the game was over or just sit and watch so . . . she . . .

Marley: Interrupted them.

Becca: What do you mean, "interrupted them"

Vicky: Well, Donna, you may have noticed is not the patient type and she basically stared at Michael until he completely turned around to face and started walking toward her.  The problem was . . . there was still a game going on around him, and he . . . sort of . . . forgot.

Marley: Yeah, he apparently forgot everything except her, and he got hit with the ball.

Vicky: Right in the nose!  Broke it and everything!!

Becca: Wait a minute.  You mean she just stared at him and he . . .

Vicky: was just gone . . . I guess.

Becca: WOW!  No wonder she's soo lonely . . . to have that sort of a connection with someone . . .

Marley: Yeah, well that's how the story goes anyway. (Both Marley and Vicky are uncomfortable at the mention of Donna's loneliness)

Becca: Okay.  So do we "distract" all the guys or what?

Vicky: Just yours.  You work on Nick.  I get Jake and Marley gets Tyrone.

Marley: I still don't know about this.

Vicky: Oh, come on.  It's not like you've never done this before.  You used to like this game as I recall.

Marley: That was different.  And a LONG time ago.  Tyrone's not Dennis.

Vicky: No. I guess not.  But you were always  best at this with Jaime I thought.  It's funny the four of us played once a long time ago when I was married to Jaime and you were with Jake.

Marley: And do you remember what happened?

Vicky: Yeah, of course I do.  We all played with each other. Jake and I  and you and Jaime, and then we'd switch.  It was fun.  We were obviously with the wrong people back then, but . . .

Marley: It was a mess!!  Jaime and Jake almost killed each other and you and I were more in competition with each other than with the guys!!

Vicky: (smiles) Yeah, I remember.  We were all over each other!!  But still, I remember thinking that that was almost how it was supposed to be..  The four of us.  You and Jaime and Me and Jake.  Part of me thought that when Jake & I got married, you would . . .

Marley: Well, THAT was lifetime ago.  And not everyone gets a happy ending, you know.

Becca: Uhhh . . . I'm not entirely sure what's going on here (stroking Marley's arms) but, you are getting way too upset.  It's okay.  Just call the guy, I'm sure he still . . .

Marley: (yanking her arm away) STOP THAT!!!  How did you . . .

Vicky: OK, OK.  How about we just play then.

Marley: No. I don't want too now.  I knew this was a bad . . . Tyrone!

Tyrone: What is it?

Marley: I wwwant to go now.

Tyrone: What did you do to her?

Vicky: Nothing!

Tyrone: Come on.  Let's get out of here.  You don't need this. (They leave)

(Guys come over to Becca and Vicky)

Nick: What was that about?

Vicky: I don't know really.

Jake: Hey! Are we playin' or what?

Nick: Oh, yeah!

Becca: I'm up for it (eyeing Nick)

Vicky: You guys are going down!

(Jake has the ball and is about to shoot when Vicky walks up to him and . . .

Vicky: Oh, McKinnon . . .

Jake: You're gonna have to try harder than that.  It may have been a while . . . (she gets closer)

Vicky: What? (they are shifting from side to side as he tries to avoid her)

Jake: Do what you will, this game is MINE!!!  (Suddenly his eyes go wide) VICKY!!

(She falls into his arms (seeming to faint) as Becca grabs the ball and dribbles it away)

Vicky: (takes a finger and traces it down his chest) Thanks, McKinnon.  What was that last statement by the way??

Jake: This means War!!

(Becca dribbles the ball and shoots.  Nick then gets the ball as Becca goes up to guard him)

Becca: So, what's up, doll face? (Nick is trying to evade her) Gosh, it's getting hot out here . . . hasn't been this hot since . . .

Nick: Don't even go there, Becky.

Becca: (Playing seductively with her hair)  What? (moves closer to him) Aren't you hot?

Nick: Move.

Becca: All that ice from downstairs . . . (She starts to touch his chest) We just put it everywhere . . . here . . . and here (he goes to shoot and she touches his chest and he misses)

(Jake gets the ball and jumps to shoot as Vicky jumps with him and plants a big one on him midair.  Vicky and Becca pass the ball between them angling for a shot when Jake comes up from behind and lifts Vicky into the air and they start to make out.  Nick decides to get the ball back from Becca.  He has taken his shirt off.  Becca is dribbling.)

Nick: You know what else I remember about that summer?

Becca: What?

Nick: Your freckles.  How many did I get up to?

Becca: Dont remember . . .

Nick: Let me see if I can pick up where I left off . . . (takes the ball. He dribbles for a while and then looks over to Jake.)  Ummm . . . a little help here . . . Jake!

Vicky: He's busy! (They are almost completely horizontal making out on the steps)

Nick: Jake! The basketball game!

Jake: What basketball game?

Nick: The one you said we were going to win!

Jake: I don't know what you're doing, but I am DEFINITELY winning here!

Becca: Guess it's just you & me!

Nick: Yeah, I guess they're playing a different game!

Becca: I guess so . . .

Nick: Wanna play?

Becca: Sure . . . (she moves in as if to kiss him and takes the ball and shoots)

(Nick catches her from the jump shot as she is about to fall and she turns around and the ball drops in front of them)

Becca: (looking deep into his eyes) the ball . . .

Nick: What ball? (he lets her go and they both scramble for the ball.  Becca falls to the ground and he reaches his hand out to help her up and he grabs her and kisses her.)

(Jake and Vicky are suddenly back up and one of them throws the ball at Nick and Becca)

Jake: Thought we were playing b-ball here.

Nick: Decided I liked your "game" better.

Vicky: (wiping her lips to fix the smeared lipstick on her mouth and Jake's) So, What's the score?

Jake: I think we're even . . .

Becca: One last tie breaker?

Nick: Okay. Who scored last?

Vicky: (laughing) Well . . .

Becca: Why doesn't Jake take a free-throw?

Nick: Why Jake?

Becca: Cause you can't shoot!!  I was trying to be nice.

Jake gets to the free-throw line with Vicky, Becca & Nick on the side.  He looks up to aim the ball for the shot and Vicky flashes him and the ball drops on Jake's head.)

Becca: On that note . . .

Jake: You guys cheated!

Vicky: I didn't notice you complaining!

Becca: I didn't think it was possible to "cheat" in this game.

Nick: Yeah, if that was cheating . . .

Vicky: (to Jake) You loved it.

Nick: (looking at Becca) I know I did!!!

(Inside Marley and Tyrone have decided to stay after all and Marley is helping Donna do the dishes (OK, so Marley is doing the dishes, and Donna is "supervising")

Marley: So what do you think of this girl?

Donna: What do you mean?  What do I think?  I think she's a friend of Victoria's and Jake's and Nick seems quite taken with her as well.  She does have the most wretched taste in clothing.  Did you see how she was wearing that shirt?  and it's white!  And no education?  How do these things happen today??  But, we'll fix her right up, there. don't worry, darling.  She'll be fine.  We'll  have to do something with her hair I guess too.  Really, who wears a ponytail after the age of 10?

Marley: That's NOT what I meant, Donna.  You don't think there's something a little . . . I don't know . . . strange about her?

Donna: No.  Like I said, she needs a little help, but . . . then so did Victoria when she and Jake first came to town. She hasn't had any of your advantages, Marley.

Marley: Where is she from?

Donna: Chicago, I think.  Victoria says she's not real big on talking about her past. I think that's an excellent philosophy.  We should all try and look forward.  Forget the past.  You can't change it anyway.

Marley: I can't shake this feeling that I . . .

Donna: You're probably just tired darling, you haven't had an easy year.

Marley: You really don't . . .

Donna: NO!  I don't.  I'm sure you just need some sleep.

(Vicky, Jake, Nick and Becca come in all hot and sweaty)

Becca: That was fun,

Vicky: I knew you'd like it.  I know it's one of Jake's favorites.

Nick: (moving to put his arms around Becca) I'm sooo glad you're my sister!!

Jake: (looking at Nick who has pulled Becca to him and is kissing her neck a bit) Yeah. I can see why you're soo happy.

Becca: (closing her eyes and feeling Nick's arms as they encircle her.  She starts to caress his arms) Mmm Hmmm . . . (realizing she is getting WAY too into this) Get . . . your . . . smelly arms off of . . . me.  (Turning around to look Nick straight in the eyes and so close to him they are almost kissing) You . . . need. . . a . . . shower.

Nick: So do you.

(Donna hears them and comes out of the kitchen)

Donna: Did you kids have fun?

Becca: (squiggling out of Nick's arms and trying to get a hold of herself.) Ummm, yes.  I need to go check on Joshua. (leaves quickly almost running up the stairs)

Nick: Thanks, Donna.

Donna: What did I do?

Jake: You have the world's worst timing, that's all.

Vicky: But, we love you anyway!

(Becca comes back down from "checking" on Joshua and all are assembled in the living room)

Vicky: So, how's Josh?

(Becca has purposely sat on the step leading into the living room away from Nick.  When she enters, Nick gets up and goes to sit next to her on the step.)

Becca: Still asleep if you can believe that.  What is it with this house?  Does the "Sandman" live here or what?

Donna: ( laughs) something like that.  I remember waking up in this house myself a few times never believing how long we'd slept. I could never understand how I could sleep so well in this . . . (makes a dismissive motion as if to say "hovel" or other derogatory term without really saying anything)

Nick: Dad?  Sleep late??  He never when I was . . .

Becca: Maybe he's just like you.

Nick: Huh? (Looks at Donna) Oh.  Yeah, I guess so.

Vicky: What do you mean?

Becca: Nick doesn't sleep alone well.

Nick: (to Becca) Neither do you!

Vicky: Oh, really!

Jake: You know there's an easy solution for that . . . (Takes Vicky on to his lap)I highly recommend it in fact!

Nick: Oh!  I didn't mean . . . well . . .

Becca: (playing with her necklace (a simple silver braided/twisted chain with a piece of pink stone suspended from it as a pendant)  I think EVERYONE  now knows what you meant!

Marley: Where did you get that necklace??  May I see it?

Becca: Sure.  I've always had the chain and Nick gave me the pendant for my birthday.

Marley: (fingering the chain)  It's quite distinctive isn't it?  Where did you get it?  Who gave it to you?

Becca: Ummm...(getting a little nervous and starting to back away from her) I'm not really sure . . . I guess my Mom gave it to me or something. I've had as long as I can re . . . HEY! (Marley has pushed Becca's hair aside seeming to look for something on Becca's neck or shoulder)

Marley: OK.  Who ARE you?  Really.  This is not funny now.  I know you.  You know me.  I look different, but it's me. Don't you remember?  It's Marley, Marley Love.  WHO ARE YOU????  TELL ME!!! (Marley is shaking Becca)

Nick: Marley!!!  Get off of her! (Marley lets go and Tyrone comes up to "rescue" Marley)

Vicky: Becca?  Are you okay?  WHAT were you thinking, Marley?

Donna: Darling, what's wrong?

Jake: Here we go again.

Marley: I'm sorry if I frightened you . . . but . . .

Nick: BUT NOTHING!

Marley: Tyrone, I . . . when I was little . . . that necklace . . . Donna, that's yours, I isn't it?  (To Becca) There was a party and we were running, the forest . . . Look at me, look into my eyes . . . I know I look different, but . . . It's me . . . you know me!

Donna: I think  it's time you went home, darling.  Tyrone?

Tyrone: Come on Marley, let me take you home.

Marley: Victoria, I'm not crazy.  Maybe she'll remember you . . . (to Becca) Look at her (pointing to Vicky)  I used to look like her .  My hair was longer.

(Tyrone and Marley leave)

(Becca is in almost a fetal position against the wall)

Donna: Rebecca?  Are you all right?  She's been ill . . .

Vicky: I thought she was doing better . . . Becca?

Becca: (a little shaky still) I'm fine . . . really (trying to smile) . . . She seemed sooo convinced of what she was saying.

Jake: And so ends the entertainment portion of the evening.  I think we should probably be going . . .

Vicky: I guess so.  Do you need a ride, Mom?

Donna: No, I'm fine.  Thanks.

Vicky: Marley . . . I'm . . . She didn't used to be like that, Becca.

Becca: I'm fine.  It's okay, really.  Go home. (Vicky kisses her on the cheek and Jake kisses her on the forehead as they say good night.  Donna gets up to leave as well and takes Becca aside.)

Donna: So, I'll expect to see you tomorrow morning around 10 a.m. to get ready for lunch. Okay?

Becca: (still a little distracted) Okay.  Sure.

Donna: and please . . . don't take anything my poor Marley said to heart.  She's been badly hurt.  She really has no idea what she's saying. It's probably best to just ignore her.

Becca: Oh, don't worry.  I'm fine.  It's just she seemed soo convinced of what she was saying . . .

Donna: I'm sure she was . . . in her own mind . . . I'm afraid that's the problem.

Becca: Mmm Hmm.  Okay.

Donna: And tomorrow (making a dismissive gesture over Becca's clothes and hair) try and wear something a little . . . or, actually . . . Don't worry about it.  I'll bring something for you to wear.

Becca: Donna . . . I can dress myself.

Donna: I wasn't suggesting you couldn't.

Nick: Say good night, Donna.

Donna: Good night, Darlings.

Nick and Becca: Good night. (They watch all the cars drive off)

Becca: Well . . . I guess I should go too.

Nick: Do you have too?  I mean, you don't have to.

Becca: Nick, I'm not . . .

Nick: (smiles) I only mean that Joshua's already asleep and you yourself said how hard that it to accomplish, and there's lots of room here.  You can sleep anywhere you want.

Becca: I don't know . . .

Nick: Come on, it's late and you did say you would never want to leave here.

Becca: Nick!  I can't . . . I mean we're not . . . I have my own place.  I just can't . . .

Nick: Whoa!  I just meant for the night . . . really!

Becca: (yawns) Oh.  I am a little tired, and I hate to wake Josh up . . . Okay.  But, just for tonight.

Nick: Okay, go on and head up I'll turn the lights off down here. (Becca goes upstairs)  I'll settle for tonight. For now . . . But, Becky, someday . . . You won't be leaving to go anywhere.  This is your home, and this time you're staying.  This is our house.  Michael left it to me to raise my family in it and so I'd always have a home.  You'll see. This where you belong, where we both do.
