My Fantasy, Part 4

Jake and Vicky's bedroom. Jake and Vicky are sleeping soundly, wrapped in each other's arms. Covers, pillows, and clothes are strewn around the room, indicating the fact that they had a very....warm homecoming;-)

JAKE:( opening his eyes--sees Vicky) My god, you look like an angel....I can't believe that I got you back, and our daughters. If I am dreaming, I never want to wake up.

He kisses her sweetly, then quietly moves out of bed. Putting on his robe, he makes his way downstairs for a drink.

JAKE: (Looking through the fridge) God, I really need to go shopping! The only thing in here is an old bottle of soda and a can of whipped cream....hmmm, that may come in handy!

He grabs the can of whipped cream and gets his glass of water. As he is walking through the living room, he drops the can and it rolls under the TV stand. While kneeling down to get it, he notices the blinking of the answering machine.

JAKE: Who in the hell would call me here? The only person who knows that I might come here is Lucinda, and she thinks I am still in Lassiter until tomorrow!

He presses play.

"McKinnon, it's me, Jules. I know, you said to give you some space, but Lucy gave me your number here. She thought this is where you would be. I just wanted you to know that I have been thinking about you since you left. I'm sorry I sprung everything on you so quickly, but I had to say how I felt. I didn't mean to scare you off by saying I love you...I'll be waiting at home for you. Please call. You know the number."

*BEEP*--End of Messages*

Jake stands there with a look of total realization and shock on his face.

JAKE: Ooooh, Jules.....I haven't even thought of you since the moment I set eyes on Vicky. God, I don't want to hurt you....(looks at the clock) You should still be up, you always watch old movies on TV around now (smiles)...God, you are so much like Vicky and I,   it is scary. If things were different.....(shakes his head) but they aren't. I love Vicky and I have to tell you that.

He picks up the phone and dials.

JULIA: Papa John's Pizza, what can I get for you?

JAKE: Very funny, Jules :) What would you do if it wasn't me?

JULIA: Well, McKinnon, you are the only person I know besides me that stays up this late, and even better than that, the only person crazy enough to call me this late and risk waking me up! Lucky for you, I wasn't sleeping. I am watching "An Affair To Remember". Remember last month when we sat and watched this together, and Lucy called with a story? Both of us were crying so hard that we couldn't even talk....she thought we were out of our minds.

JAKE: (smiling at the memory) Yeah honey, I remember. You have helped me get through some tough times, and I will love you for that forever. You have a very special place in my heart.

JULIA: I feel a very big *but* coming on here.  Jake, you know that you can talk to me about anything. I know that when you lost your wife you never thought that there would be another person in your life, but Jake, I want you to know that I am that person. I just need to know how you feel.

JAKE: Jules, this is so hard for me...I am just going to come out and say it. When I went to Lassiter today with the boys, I went to celebrate a special anniversary for Vicky and I.  I was missing her something awful, and as I was leaving I saw two little girls and their mother swinging.

JULIA: Oh Jake, that must have been so hard, making you think of your lost family. I am so sorry...

JAKE: No honey, that's just it! The woman was telling a story to the little girls, and it was the same story that I used to tell Vicky to calm her down. It is also the same story I tell the boys to remind them of their mom. Well, I called out her name, and she looked at me....honey, it was Vicky and my two little girls. She has had amnesia since the plane crash, and something led her to that park....Jules, when she saw me she remembered everything about our life together. She is here with me now, and our family. Oh honey, you have to see the girls! Their names are Mary Bridget and Elizabeth Michaela. they are the two most beautiful little girls!! And...

JULIA: Jake, you're rambling. I....I don't know what to say! I guess congratulations are in order. You never did give up on her, did you? In the back of your mind, you always knew that she was out there....I wish I had someone to love me like that. She is a lucky woman, Jake McKinnon.

JAKE: Honey, I am so sorry. Over these past three years, we have gotten so close! There is a part of me that loves you, and you have to know that you honestly saved my life when I thought Vic was gone. You made me see that life had to go on, even if I didn't think that was possible. You are my best friend. I need you in my life...please say that you still want me.

JULIA: Jake, while I can't say that I am not disappointed, I am honestly happy for you. Everyone on the earth knows how much you love Vicky, you just have to listen to your voice or look in your eyes when you talk about her. You are my best friend, too, McKinnon, and I'll take you any way I can get you.

JAKE: Thank you so much for understanding, honey. I love you! I'll be here for a couple more days, and then I'll be coming back to Oakdale.

JULIA: Great! I can't wait to meet the family! Hopefully those girls don't have their daddy's big ears....

JAKE: Hey! You watch it...I happen to like these big ears:)

JULIA: Yeah, me too. Well, I'll let you go back to your lovely wife. Have fun, and I'll see you soon. I love you, and I truly am happy for you.

JAKE: Thanks, Jules. I love you too. See you soon.

Jake hangs up the phone smiling. He can't believe how well she took things. He picks up the whipped cream and turns around to head back up the stairs. At the landing is Vicky, tears in her eyes.

JAKE: Vicky! What are you doing up?

VICKY: I came down looking for you when I saw you were gone. So, who was that? Your new wife?? When were you going to tell me, Jake? After you slept with me a few more times for old times sake?

JAKE: Vic, it's not like that! I love you!

VICKY: Yeah, well it seems like you have alot of love going around these days, huh? You know, I don't even have the right to be mad! I have been gone and you had every right to move on with your life. But I have to ask you...why did you lie??? Did you think you could have me here, your perfect little Bay City family, and then go to Oakdale on "business" and have your floosy there, too? I am sorry McKinnon, but it doesn't work that way!! I am not now nor have I ever been stupid. Just because I don't have the right to be mad doesn't mean that I can't feel as if I have died all over again!

She turns and runs up the stiars, slamming the bathroom door after her, Jake running after her.
