My Fantasy, Part 1
SEPTEMBER 12, 2002(Trivia Mongrels, before I
continue the story....I am gonna take the liberty of adding on to the meaning of this
date, not just what J&V said it was(anyone care to swing a guess before I say what it
is??LOL), so bear with me!!)
Lassiter, PA--Jake, Steven, and Kirkland.
The Playground.
Jake:....and so ends chapter 901 of Rags and Alice Blue. So, you guys wanna do anything
else?
Football, Baseball, Swing??
Steven: Jake, you don't have to be brave for us, we are all men now. We know that this
wasn't just a fun trip that you came all the way to California to get us for. Although I
am glad you finally decided you wanted to raise us!! You are my real "Dad," and
it is gonna be great once to adoption papers go through!! "Steven McKinnon." It
sounds nice.
Jake: Oh, Steven, I didn't just decide that I wanted you! I have always loved you guys
like you were my own. If I hadn't been so busy looking for your mom....(chokes up for a
minute)
Let's just say that you would've been with me WAY before this!
(Jake notices Kirk is sitting on the swings by himself.)
Jake: Hey little man, what's wrong?
Kirk: I still miss mommy. Why can't she come home?
Jake: I know buddy, I know. I miss your mom, too.(stares off into space, where the tree
used to be.) Do you guys know what today is? September 12th. It was the first day of first
grade. I remember standing in line for lunch, talking to my friends, when I heard the most
amazing laugh. I turned to look in front of me in line, and I thought I saw an angel. She
had the most brilliant head of blonde hair, and the bluest eyes. I didn't even know her
name! My friends noticed where I was looking, and they started making fun of me and my
"girlfriend." Now, I couldn't let them think I liked a GIRL, so I decided to
shoot spitballs at her head...
Steven: You shot SPITBALLS at Mom and she didn't pulverize you?? Way to go Jake!!
Jake: Well Steven, she didn't exactly let me get away with it either:) Right after the
first one hit, she turned around and our eyes met. She HAD to blame it on me, I was the
only one with a straw! She started yelling, and the next thing I knew, I had a faceful of
Chocolate milk!! Well, that started a war, and we were both in the pricipal's office for
starting the biggest food fight in Lassiter's history!!! We were the coolest first graders
you would ever meet...well, at least to us anyway. That is when I found out her name was
Vicky Carson. We talked our way out of trouble together, and she took me home to meet
Bridget. as they say, the rest is history.
Steven: Did that really happen Jake??
Jake: Sure did little man! Now, how about you two go and play football...I'll be right
there!
(They run off, and Jake walks over to where the tree used to be. Looks around, sits down,
and starts to cry...)
Jake: Oh Vicky, why can't you be here to tell these stories to our boys with me...and our
girls?? God I miss you....
In the backround, you see two little girls, one with blonde hair and one with brown,
running towards the swings. When they get there, you can see that they have the same
identical face, and the bluest eyes. A woman comes up behind them, wearing a baseball cap
and a pair of sunglasses.
Woman: Mary, Elizabeth, don't you EVER run ahead of mommy like that again!! I didn't even
know where you were!! We don't know this area very well and I don't want to lose you.
(She looks around, and takes off the glasses. We see it is Vicky!!)
Vicky: This park looks cozy enough, and there is something about these swings....oh well,
let's get you guys swinging!
(As she is pushing her little girls, she sees Steven and Kirkland playing football. She
freezes in her tracks, and she starts remembering some things....Steven's birth, The baby
switch, Kirkland's hit-and-run accident, etc... She gets shook up, and has to sit down.
When she sits on the bench, she sees a newspaper with the date on it.)
Vicky: September 12th. Why does that day sound so familiar to me? It just feels
important!! And what are these memories that I have been having for the past three years??
What do they mean??
(As she is trying to figure this out, Jake is standing up, and getting ready to leave. He
glances over at the swings, and sees the girls holding hands while they swing higher and
higher. He smiles wistfully, wondering what might have been if Vicky had lived.)
(As he is walking away, the girls start to yell for their mom)
Girls: Mommy!! Tell us a story! Like the one you started to tell us last night!!
Vicky: What? Oh, okay...lets see... Well, there were these two ragamuffin kids from
Lassiter, Pa named Rags and Alice Blue....
(Jake stops in his tracks)
Jake: (whispering) vicky? no, it couldn't be...but what if..??(he spins around, and sees
Vicky pushing the little girls as she tells the first installment she ever heard of Rags
and Alice Blue...)
(Screaming)VICKY!!!!!
(She turns around and sees him. They lock eyes, and he runs towards her. Just as he
reaches her, she says,"Jake!!!" and collapses into his arms. He falls to the
ground with her, her head in his lap, and cries as he tries to wake her up.)
