Scene 8
Bay City Cottage

Vicky: Oh wow, I have missed this place. I’m glad we didn’t sell it.

Jake: Me too. There are too many memories here!

The boys come running over and Jake quiets them down.

Jake: Ok, guys, Nana doesn’t know your mom is alive so be quiet and we can surprise her, ok?

Steven & Kirkland: OK!

Jake: (looks at Vicky) You ready for this?

Vicky: Oh yes, I’m ready! (Vicky stays out of site and peers into the window)

Jake knocks on the door and Donna answers.

Donna: Jake! Steven! Kirk! What are you 3 doing here?

Kirk: We came to surprise you, Nana! Mom . . .

Steven hits Kirk on the shoulder and shushes him.

Donna looks at them strangely.

Jake: What the boys mean is that their mom would want them to visit. Can we come in?

Vicky hears this and laughs to herself.

Donna: Oh, yes, I’m sorry, come on in!

We see Marley and Tyrone are already here.

They all greet and say ‘Hi’ to each other.

Jake: Are we interrupting something?

Donna: No, of course not, we were just about to sit down to a family dinner. It’s perfect now that you all are here. Come on, have a seat!

Jake: Donna, wait! I have someone who would like to see all of you again.

Donna: Who is it, Jake?

Jake: Boys, do you want to do the honors?

Steven & Kirk: Yeah!

They both run to the door and fight about who’s going to open it. Finally, they open the door and Vicky walks into the room. Jake walks up and kisses her. No one says a thing, they are all shocked.

Donna: (crying) Oh Darling, is that you? (She hugs her.) Oh Victoria, I have missed you so much!!

Vicky: Oh, Mom, I have missed you. (She starts to cry as well.)

They let go.

Donna: You look beautiful! (She touches her stomach) How are the babies?

Vicky: They are perfect! They are due any day now and I can’t wait!

Marley runs up to her twin and gives her a big hug.

Marley: I knew, somehow, you weren’t dead. I’m so happy to see you!!

Vicky: Me too, Marley, me too! I thought about you so much. But when I did, I didn’t worry! I could tell you were very happy!

Marley: (looks at Tyrone, then at Vicky) I am happier than I have ever been. And now, with you back and the babies due any day, my life is perfect!

Vicky: (hugs her again) I am so glad!

Vicky looks around the room. Where’s Nick?

Marley: He just called and he is stuck in traffic. It appears with all the snow, there was a huge accident and they have closed the road.

Vicky: Oh wow, I hope no one was hurt!

Jake comes up behind Vicky and places his arms around her belly.

Jake: You happy?

Vicky: You have no idea!

She surveys the room and smiles at having her family back in her life again. All of a sudden, she gets a shocked look on her face and looks down.

Jake: Vicky? Are you ok?

Vicky: The babies! Jake, it’s time!

Jake: What?

Donna and Marley see this and come to Vicky.

Donna: Is it the babies, Victoria?

Vicky nods her head and breathes through a contraction.

Jake: Ok, let’s go.

Marley: We can’t Jake, the road is closed.

Jake: What? What do you mean?

Marley: Nick called and said the road was closed due to an accident. He said there was a bad accident and the road probably won’t open until the morning.

Jake and Vicky look at each other mortified.
