A Dream Come True, Part 4

Scene 4 (cont.)

Vicky calmed down some and began to tell her story again.

Vicky: It was awful, Jake. We were leaving the hospital and Greg was telling me about his family in Oakdale, and all of a sudden 2 men came from behind us and grabbed us. It was awful, Jake. They took us to this horrible dungeon. It was cold and damp and I kept having flashbacks of last Christmas when Marley had me locked up. I never wanted out of any place in all my life. We were in there for weeks!! Greg and I tried everything to get out of there, but nothing worked. Finally, I managed to get the guards attention by faking labor. While he was hovering over me, I grabbed his key and we managed to escape.

Jake: (smiles) Vicky, you are a wonder!

Vicky: Hey, you taught me everything I know! J Who knew that all those stolen doorknockers would save my life someday?

She again gets a serious look on her face.

Vicky: Jake, it’s not over. When we were leaving the building, the other guards caught us trying to escape and starting shooting. Greg shot back and managed to shoot both guards, but in the chaos Greg was shot as well. (She starts tearing up) I was never so helpless in all my life. I bent down to him, and tried to stop the bleeding. I begged him to hold on! I kept thanking him for his bravery and for being such a wonderful friend.

Jake: Greg didn’t . . . he didn’t . . . (motioning with his hands)

Vicky: No, he didn’t die. He had a mild shoulder wound. I stayed with him until he was well enough to come back to Oakdale with me. I figured that’s the least I could do.

Jake: So what happened next?

Vicky: We got into town last night. Greg went home to his family and I checked into a hotel.

Jake: Vicky, why didn’t you come find me?

Vicky: I was so exhausted, Jake. I wanted to be fully rested before I found you again. I tried to make contact with you today, but I didn’t know what to say.

Jake: So it was you who called. I got the strangest feeling when you hang up. Like someone was trying to tell me something. And here you are!

Vicky: Here I am! Running into you tonight was not planned. I wanted to prepare you for this shock, but I when I heard your voice, that beautiful deep voice, I couldn’t help myself, I had to come to you!

Scene 5
Bedroom

Jake and Vicky are cuddled together. Vicky is way too pregnant for um . . . you know. LOL

Jake: (leans over and kisses her cheek) I have missed you so much!

Vicky: I've missed you too, Jake! I was thinking that I'd like to go to Bay City tomorrow. I am just dying to see Mom and Marley and Nick.

Jake: They don't know you're here yet. Can you imagine the looks on their faces?

Vicky: (starts laughing) They will be surprised, that's for sure!

Jake: The boy’s plane will be here around noon and then we will head directly to Bay City from the airport.

Vicky: (rolls over to face him) Sounds like a plan!

Vicky gets a pained look on her face and turns to Jake.

Jake: Vicky, are you ok? Are you in labor?

Vicky: No, I don't think so, the babies are just laying funny. I can't wait until these babies come! I am so ready!

Jake: Yeah, I can't wait, either. I've been trying to get back into "Daddy" mode. I've been out of practice for so long.

Vicky: What are you talking about? You are a great father! You don't need practice, it just comes to you. These babies are so lucky and I am so glad I found you before the babies were born!

Jake smiles at her.

Jake: Me too, Vick, me too.

Scene ends with Vicky pulling Jake's arm over her and falling asleep in each other's arms.
