A Dream Come True, Part 2

Scene 3

Setting: The docks

Jake is sitting on the bench looking out at the lake. The snow is falling pretty hard at this point and he is starting to get cold.

Jake: (looks up) Hey Vick! Well, I survived another Christmas without you. I kept imagining you were here with me. (A slight smile comes to his face) We would have been so happy, Vick . . . waiting for our miracles to get here. And the boys would have been destroying the house racing around with their new toys.

(Vicky comes around the corner and she hears Jake talking)

Jake: (starting to cry) God, I miss you!! I’m sorry I wasn’t there to protect you. I kick myself every day for not being your bodyguard, the way I promised you I would be on our wedding day. You deserved a long and happy life, and I took that away from you. God, I’m sorry, Vicky!!

Vicky: (Getting up enough courage to speak) Jake?

Jake looks up and he sees a figure in the snowfall. He comes closer and sees who it is.

Jake: (shocked) Vicky? Is that you?

Vicky: Yeah, Jake, it’s me!

Jake: No, this is some kind of dream. You can’t be here, I was at the airport and they said your plane went down. I heard the eyewitness place you on the plane. This can’t be happening.

Vicky: I’m real, Jake. I’ve been trying to tell you I’m back in town, but I didn’t know how.

Jake stares at Vicky for a long time trying to take her all in.

Jake then reaches to touch Vicky’s face. As soon as his hand makes contact, they both started crying uncontrollably and Jake grabs her in an embrace. They hold each other so tight.

Jake: You’re real!! I can’t believe this! I can’t believe you’re here. I knew in my heart you weren’t dead, but my mind wouldn’t let me believe it.

Vicky: Oh Jake, it’s been way too long. I am never leaving you again!!

Jake and Vicky come out of their embrace.

Jake: God, you are beautiful! And the babies! (he touched Vicky’s stomach gently) Are they are ok?

Vicky: Yes, the babies are perfect. They are due any time now, and I bet they can’t wait to meet their daddy. And the boys? How are my little angels?

Jake: The are perfect! They are with Jamie in London right now, but I talk to them all the time on the phone. They are going to be so happy to see their mom again!

Vicky: I can’t wait. Let’s get them home as soon as possible, ok?

Jake: Absolutely!!

Jake touches Vicky’s stomach again and just as he did, the babies kicked.

Jake: They kicked!! They know me!

Vicky: Of course they do! I wouldn’t let them forget you.

Jake: Come on, let’s get you out of this cold. Let’s go home, Mrs. McKinnon

Jake puts his arm around Vicky’s shoulder and leads her home.
