A Dream Come True, Part 1

Scene 1
Setting: Jake is at his desk at the City Times staring at a picture of Vicky. It is the day after Christmas.

Lucinda walks down the hall and looks into Jake’s office and sees him looking at the picture. She bows her head and puts on a happy face before she walks in.

Lucinda: Good Morning, Darling!

Jake: Lucinda! (snapping out of his daze) I’m sorry, I was just . . . (pointing to the picture)

Lucinda: I’m sorry, sweetie. Yesterday must have been hard for you.

Jake: Yeah, it was. I just kept thinking of her and all the fun we used to have on Christmas. Then I was thinking about the twins. Vicky was due about this time. (getting agitated) I have dreamed of being a father ever since I can remember, and I ruined it! Just because of this sick obsession I had of finding out the truth about Alec!!

Lucinda: Darling, you can beat yourself up about this all you want, but the fact remains, it was not your fault!! Jake, I worry about you. You can’t let this get to you. I want you to live again.

Jake: I appreciate you worrying about me, Lucinda. You are a good friend. But Vicky was my whole world. I have loved her since the first grade, I just can’t let her go yet. I love her so much!

(The phone rings)

Jake: McKinnon. (there is no voice on the other end of the line) Hello?

(We flash to Vicky on the other end of the line with tears in her eyes hearing his voice again. She tries to say something, but the words don’t come. She hangs up.)

Jake: Hello? Hmm . . . I wonder who that was. (He gets a strange feeling that he can’t shake that that phone call was important)

Lucinda: Jake? Are you ok? Who was on the phone?

Jake: I don’t know, there was no answer.

Lucinda: Hmm . . . Well, if it’s important, they will call back, I’m sure.

Jake: Yeah . . . Lucinda, do you mind if I get out of here for a while, I just need to clear my head.

Lucinda: Take as long as you need, I can take care of things around here.

Jake: I’m sure you can! (a smile comes to his face. He starts to leave and peeks back into the office and sees Lucinda trying to turn on his laptop.) And don’t touch my computer!

Lucinda: (startled) Ahhh . . . Just go, Jake! (she smiles to herself shaking her head)

Scene 2
Settings: Vicky’s Hotel Room

We see a very pregnant Vicky sitting in a chair watching the snow fall, with tears in her eyes.

Vicky: Hey there little girls (she says stroking her stomach) I’m having a hard time telling your daddy that I’m back. Just hearing his voice again made me feel so safe and loved. I have missed him so much, and I know he would be glad to see me. It’s just hard trying to find the words. Ever since the plane crash, I’ve been trying to find my way back to him, but as you know, people and circumstances got in the way. I am so close, and I feel that if I don’t do this now, I never will! (she feels the babies kick) Oh, you want to find your daddy, too, don’t you? Ok, then, let’s go find your daddy!

(She slowly gets up, grabs her coat and heads out the door)
